They have finished their character progression, and at this point half of them have been through so many fake-out deaths that it's no longer believable that any of them would go through any major consequences. Even Y'shtola's blindness barely seemed to inconvenience her.
Krile, for now, has only been used a plot device so far and is practically a blank piece of paper. But the other Scions need to retire. If we're going to go through 7.0 with G'raha Tia it just confirms that Square Enix has utterly lost any willingness to write a good story; they just want to write a good fanfiction.
The best stories in video gaming and literature in general do not make you fanboy or fangirl over the characters. Good stories have always presented flawed characters who have conflict with each other and go through consequences. If Square Enix is serious about maintaining FF14's status as having the best story in an MMO (and this is debatable at this point), they should be serious about writing a good story independently of whether fans will cry if they don't get to see their bodypillow character join the WoL on their journey in 7.0.
Also, we don't need anyone to die necessarily in 7.0, but we really need to stop having moments such as In From the Cold that builds up all this tension and raises the stakes only to turn the valve to release it with a fart.
This is one of the few cases where they need to ignore fan complaints if a character dies and whatnot.
