500+ Orchestrion rolls , 8 track playlist. I need answers.

Its a minor thing.... but I personally would enjoy an expanded playlist beyond just 8 choices.

I'm sure there's a reason, but is this reason a good reason ? I require smarter players than I to educate me about this.

No clue. I can't even remember if this got asked in any Q&A. Though no amount of expanding the tracks will be enough. It would be nice if we got 8 more.

Realistically, you can only use the orchestrion in your house/inn room. With a full 8 tracks you can easily get 15 minutes of music or more…but let’s go with 15 since a lot of songs are short/repetitive. I wouldn’t mind getting double that but honestly, at that point you really should just be listening to YouTube/internet radio/DJs.

Living in Japan, those 8 different tracks is more than they have at my local supermarket.

As it’s meant to be background “elevator music”…I doubt the devs even realize there is a demand for it.

All that said, I (again) wouldn’t mind more slots.

Many of my favorite are shorter unfortunately. "Reflections" as example. I personally try to test out rolls to find the longer ones to lengthen the playlist time.

I think this is a great idea and would add a lot of immersion to the game. Some people spend hours and hours in houses sometimes. The 8 limit is probably something to do with some old spaghetti code or some databases not able to talk to one another.

I'd say it's a server size memory issue.

You need that server side so other people get your playlist in your house

If they only panned up to 1024 songs, the current playlist should be at the very minimum ~11 bits per orchestrion (gross underestimate because overahead and spaghetti code).

So minimum 36k per server + number of players (so 42M or something) for FC rooms (+ another bit for IS)

So doubling the capacity (16 tracks) isn't trivial I guess..

That of course, doesn't means you can't have a client-side list of playists to override the server-side playlist from ; that would certainly be possible and low-cost for SE.

I sometimes I am in my room crafting for a few hours - after half an hour I'm already wanting to listen to something else - with so many!! rolls available to us we should be able to listen to more than just a few.
