Returning Player looking for Direction

Hey Y'all. Recently my younger brother and a good friend got me to reactivate my account and jump back in. It's been almost 4 years since I played. This past weekend I downloaded and installed then spent 8 hours reconfiguring my HUD and Hotkeys. (still not convinced that's done yet either, lol)
When I logged in I was so completely lost. I mean the Quest tracker tells me what I was working on, but I don't remember a darn thing. Which is typical of most MMO's. My DRK is at 65 and I think I'm doing Stormblood stuff. Honestly I'm not sure. Doesn't matter. What I really want to know is, should I just keep powering through the MSQ and enjoy the Storyline and Roulette for leveling, or is there something like the P.o.t.D./something similar that can be done as well? I'm not in any great hurry to hit cap. I just want to be leveling consistently so I don't feel like I'm wasting time. And I don't want to buy any items that skip past all that cuz as lost as I may be I do remember the MSQ being decent and definitely Final Fantasy-ish.

Follow the MSQ. Do sidequests of approximately the same level in the areas you do the MSQ in. That should be quite sufficient for both leveling and gearing until you hit level cap.
You can of course also do the occasional roulette if you want to level faster, or use that to level alternate classes/jobs.

There are other ways of gaining XP and levels, but they are all quite unnecessary for your main class since you will be getting plenty of XP just doing the MSQ.
