    Just spitballing here but they could add a kind of gear mod item to certain dead content. It will +1 your weapon to give it 1 more weapon damage. Depending on the type of weapon there's different caps on how many times you can enhance them. Low item level weapons can accept more.

    If V&C dungeons dropped those, they could be part of everyone's gameplay loop. Not a perfect idea I know, but an example of adding new kinds of rewards that aren't just cosmetic fluff. People like to work on something that makes them stronger.

    Materia could have unique kinds from specific content such as eurekan materia and bozjan materia. Combining certain materia could create further new kinds. Mutamix could give us a portable furnace as a quest reward so that we can merge materia ourselves at any sanctuary.

    Materia was supposed to be a system of unique modifiers - It got downgraded to shit over the years.

    Yeah sure. Certainly not my experience as someone who discussed my hot takes about the story on both subs.
    The only place where I ever had a civil conversation with someone with a different opinion than mine was on the mainsub. Discussion sub is all about s***-flinging and arrogant pseudo-intellectual takes on media literacy (lmao) while conveniently ignoring sources when it's presented to them. They don't actually care about discussion.

    To say nothing of the fact that certain popular 'class fantasies' aren't even present to begin with. Imagine how fun it'd be to have a proper pet taming class in this game with as much choice as to what you can tame as there is with the hunter class in WoW.

    Even without a pet, you can't effectively play a standard archer beyond level thirty and are forced into playing a bard instead after that point.

    Regardless, if we want any form of long lasting content then the obvious solution is to change how gearing works or at least iterate on it to make it more interesting and not just flat vertical increases in stats because the only worthwhile rewards you can get out of non extreme/savage/ult content is glamour, accessories like mounts/minions and money. Hell, GW2 pretty much has what materia should have been with its infusions.

    Personally, I'd like to see the inclusion of relic weapons and armor in the style of FFXI. It would benefit crafters and those that elect not to raid more than anyone else, as the former would be provided even greater gil-making opportunities and the latter would have the ability to earn max item level gear without having to raid, albeit with a lot more time sunken into it.

    It would be something to do, at least. At this point... well, there's just nothing. I legit only log in at a friend's request to make sure their FC doesn't fall into the wrong hands/prevent the house from being demoed.

    Which sadly falls on the devs in this case. They weren't exactly happy that players were able to meld full vitality and survive mechanics they didn't want you to survive without X ilvl. So they took out the stat materia. Personally I hate the substat system right now because Crit and Det are king for almost every job just because how Skill/Spell speed and Tenacity/Piety work.

    Because Skill/Spell Speed lower GCD, there's a point where you will start clipping if you have too much, so it's not worth making builds on those. It can even make it so doing double oGCDs isn't possible, which hurts most jobs. Hell, several DPS can even speed up their own skill speed with a self buff, making the substat worthless to put materia in. Note that BLM is the single outlier here, as Spell Speed is really good on them due to their long casts.
    Then there's Tenacity, which mostly effects the amount of damage a tank takes...except you could have it at minimum and still survive due to the amount of mitigations, so it's not a stat worth having.
    Likewise with Piety, healers almost exclusively heal through no MP cost oGCDs (GCD Lilies for WHM), already limiting the amount of MP regen they need since in a lot of cases they are not having to use MP.
    Direct Hit isn't worth it on tank/healers unless you're min/maxing, and because it's equalized with DET now (to an extent), DPS could basically go mostly Crit/Det and still put out a good amount of damage.

    Almost every substat in this game is trash, and there's no real way of fixing it without heavily reworking multiple systems in the game, leading to the same build for almost everyone right now...Crit/Det.

    Yeah I get the impression they know, but they don't act on it. It's like we're providing feedback to a McDonalds lol. Fat chance they care to do anything about it.

    The interesting thing is that you can clearly see they put effort into things right? But not where we want it. I think the devs at this point are more interested in using the game to do the things they want to do while ignoring the things we want them to do. Now, we do ask probably a lot of hard things to do, but to us they are worth it, they on the other hand just see a ton of work.

    For example, how much you want to bet that someone at the company was really interested in learning about animations and getting some experience in working with them and that's how we end up with the food scenes? I can tell you that there was passion in that work. It's just not what we want.

    What the company needs is someone passionate about revamping the health of the system that years of standardization and dumbing down have damaged. It's true spicy food can come with a lot of pros and cons, what a blast of flavor, you may pay for this later in the bathroom, but it was a good time.

    Right now, I feel like we are getting fed serum through an IV so that noone complains about anything, and noone feels anything.

    This game is boring after you beat the MSQ.
