I don't defend YoshiP alot. If anything I criticise him more than anything, but the argument to unsubscribe or play other games, while terribly blunt, is just another way of saying that you should diversify your library and not expect any one game to be the one and all.

It's also ok to outgrow a game because it no longer satisfies what you're looking for. A lot of people struggle with that one, particularly imo with MMOs.
Probably unfair to say.....and I know alot of people get upset when you say this.
But I think Blizzard and WoW kind of set this mentality.

For most people, WoW is just "That One Game" and its systems were designed to ALWAYS keep you playing. More like an Addiction Simulator instead of just a Fun Videogame.
If you notice, alot of ideas people think FFXIV should, are just systems from WoW. Some of them good: Nobody disagrees about the Glamour System.
But otherwise, it kind of sounds less like "Improve FFXIV" and more like "Turn FFXIV into WoW."
If the coding and the games Design Philosophy were different and more flexible, maybe YoshiP and Team would have.

Anyway, to stay on-topic, this has probably been the expansion that has pushed me the furthest away from the game. I haven't played for months, and when I was "playing" I was afking in the aetheryte plaza. Deep Dungeon I will eventually do, probably, maybe, but just to level alt classes. Prior to even playing the game months ago, I was also largely inactive for months. I am sorry, but there just isn't anything to really do (please don't say achievements).

As far as story is concerned, it doesn't matter to me as much as others, so I don't really get too passionate about the outcome, although I have made my opinions clear in the past, that I felt Endwalker's was rushed, and so on. Zenos is the only thing that saved the finale for me.

Hopefully next patch has some good glams or something good (probably not).
Yeah that last fight with Xenos was really fun and I wish there was a way to just reply that fight without having to do a large chapter to get to it.

Felt like Ocelot and Snake slugging it out on top of that sub.

I think Zodiark got it bad. Like...they built him up and it was a simple trial. That really urked me.

I know a lot of people dislike Zenos from all crowds, but I liked him! My favorite villain in ffxiv. He finally got his duel in the end and it was great.

Zodiark, yeah, but Garlemald got it the worst.

Unironically, I wish there was a way to answer to Zenos just, "Hey, I have a proposal, you help us with all this bullshit, and once things calm down enough and I can be certain the world won't end if I end up hospitalized for a month, we can have the fight you want anywhere you want, how about that?", which is sorta what ends up happening anyway, just Zenos is the one who decides to do it rather than the Scions extending the olive branch, but I wish it could've been put the proposal down sooner in the story.

The reason I disliked him happened to be the same reason I ended up liking him. He is a broken man who can't process feelings and the only thing that gave him life was the feeling it can actually end.

He felt like One Punch Man if there was an end to the series and he was still undisputed. He felt empty. He saw something in you and that was ALL that mattered.

Guy was a psychopath, and made no apologies for it. He had nobody who could challenge him at his level - until he met you. All he wanted was to experience that 'feeling', the thrill again. The enjoyment of the hunt. No real tragic backstory, or being a villain who was the hero in their own story. It was a breath of fresh air.

I dunno. I would call his childhood pretty bloody tragic. Being the Garlean-equivalent of a designer baby whose parents couldn't even be arsed to glance in his general direction, whose caretakers (not to mention everyone else around) were absolutely horrified of him, and whose supposed swordsmanship teacher kept trying to kill him... well, with that in mind, the man he grew up to be makes perfect sense. The Garleans wanted to create a monster -- and they did, but they mishandled everything that came afterward so badly that any hope of keeping him under control went out the window before he was even an adult.

It's basically just a retelling of Sephiroth's backstory, which makes sense considering Zenos himself was a rather blatant expy. At any rate, I find it curious how people will regard Sephiroth's upbringing as a terrible tragedy and ample explanation for what he became, whereas Zenos, whose backstory is the largely same, is apparently widely considered wholly unjustified in becoming a monster.

He could have been a just as amazing final boss. I was recently thinking it would be a twist 8 man where you queue as a 4 man but halfway through the fight he completely immobilizes the first party and removes them, but then the second party shows up and bring the first party back. The fight would then have no mechanics like anything seen before and be completely random. These are things I've been seeing in some games and XIV could have gotten something as great. But no, flailing wings were more important. They didn't even let Hades have Black Cauldron as anything cool, literally just flaps his wings and you die. Even Endsinger's hair looks like Sephiroth's, to say Zenos got cheated is like saying water is wet. But Yoshi personally doesn't like him, so whatever, it is what it is.

The fear every time they reveal a new expansion is that they spend the whole event talking about lore, locations, narrative direction. No time is spent revealing gameplay systems because there aren't any new ones.

It's always a new story slotted through the old gameplay cookie cutter. Everything is exactly where you expect it to be. Travel through your 6 field zones, spam those linear trash dungeons to level cap, buy that tome gear at cap from the city that has the tome npc, etc.

I like Yoshida as a person. I like the solid foundation he built to ensure this game had a chance. I don't like the eternal formula he adheres to for ongoing operations. We all get older but the game stays the same.

There might not be a lot that expect to be catered to 24/7, but they sure do seem to expect to have new stuff that often. Or it highly comes off like that.
