    PvP Quick Chat

    Hey Devs,

If you wanna be so headstrong about not giving us regular chat back in pvp. How about giving us more quick chats. You know, ones like “Help me out” “Being attacked” etc. Something to tell your team you are just being hard targeted and getting destroyed. Especially when monks got this buff and they can just 1 shot us healers and casters more often.

I was literally being chased the entire time by the enemy teams monk. A good monk (Gotta give props to the fella) I tried everything. Running into my team seeing if they will target him and no. Just doing anything I can. Sometimes there is allot going on and people just don’t notice. So can we get some quick chats just to boost the possible chance of getting some help. Thanks, appreciate it.

Good suggestion! Among other things, they should also return the group attack Countdown quickchat with the countdown marker. There was zero reason to remove it other than artificially making it less accessible by forcing it back to macros.

Yeah I’m so confused why they removed that too. I mean either give us chat back or give us more quick chats. I can’t believe they haven’t given us quick chats asking for help from our teammates. It’s just beyond me.

The biggest problem I've found personally with Quick chat outside of it being CC match exclusive, is that every single sentence sounds relatively the same, like the noise jingles do not differentiate themselves enough "at a glance" to make it clear what's being said without forcing players to divert their attention to the chat log.

A random noise takes adjustment, because there's no clear indicator of what it even means without having to hear it a couple of times and even then some things end up being used for different reasons making it even more confusing. When you're trying to piece together what you're hearing while your eyes are focused on things like positioning, etc, it can be bit of a disconnect. There's also notably no indicator of goal control outside of a weird blurting noise the goal itself makes, a clear callout would probably sharpen people's response time far better than what is presently available.

Compare and contrast games that have proper vocal system alerts, and it's a clear downgrade in communication. Yes, it doesn't take a long time to look and see what's what, but that little bit of time can sometimes be a crucial difference, and even then it rarely tells you everything you need to know if you're out of position for whatever reason, requiring extra adjustment to figure out what's even going on.

I will grant am pretty used to games like Unreal Tournament by comparison, different genre and style completely, but I feel lessons learned from games like those can help sharpen up PvP in MMOs, at least just a little. It wouldn't even be too drastic a change, or could even just be additive, like an alert if a team is passing a certain threshold with a goal, etc. Could work into other modes too, might even be useful if they ever do a different type of mode.

See for me I would like to try a happy medium. Give us open chat during the prep time so we can make a quick plan. After that quick chat makes more sense. Back in the day people would write entire novellas mid match like we have time to read it. That is where quick chat can excel! OP is 100% correct that we need more variety and Reiny boy is correct that we need the count downs and such back. and give us chat bubbles so we don't need to look away from the action. I like everything here.

I’ll be happy with a middle ground. So how about this. If they are worried people can’t take criticism then make normal chat a toggle. But, only during preparations before the match begins. If you toggle it on then regular chat is on for the entire match. If you toggle it off then you will only see and use quick chat only. That way people who choose to only use quick chat can stay using it. No harm done. I wonder if it’s something possible they can do?

I agree and what makes this especially frustrating is that half of those quickchat commands are totally useless (in bold) or could be reworked:

    - Hello: should only be usable during game preparation and not after, else it's just used either for 1) passive aggressive harassment/venting or 2) trying to circumvent the lack of "I need help"
    - Good match: should only be usable at the end of a game, has no other purpose before but passive aggressive harassment

    - Thank you: one of the few good ones
    - Sorry: same, with small caveats
    - Nice job: eeeh, guess it can't be helped
    - MP: useless feast remnant, nobody uses this
    - LB: useful
    - Executing LB: somewhat useful, kinda wish it came with the LB action tbh
    - Going ahead: somewhat useful
    - Falling back: nobody cares, this is chat clutter
    - Attacking target: do you really think I have time to read the party chat to see which target it is about, then try finding them on the battlefield? Useless. What matters are marks directly above targets heads
    - Blocking target: what is this even for?
    - Covering target: useful (PLD mains, but also heals, or just as a manner to indicate you're gonna take care of somebody "going ahead")
    - Charge: could seem useless, but I think it can be occasionally good when you want to literally jump at the throat of the enemy (notably if you have way more melees than them)
    - Group up: omega useful, people are monkey brain
    - Retreat: same
    - Moving crystal: keep it I guess
    - Push crystal: hehe
