It's because we're technically floating off the ground and they gave us the sandals so it wouldn't look weird when you're not on a flat surface. I also want to say it so the grounds' collision detection works properly. It's been a few years since they explained it while trying to not use a whole bunch of technical terms.

I don't see any floating in modded images/videos I've seen. The feet look perfectly normal and certainly there is nothing that stands out and says this is weird why did they do that. I'm sure they have their reasons but why not a emperors glam that actually fixes the look seems to me it should be something they can do but it probably just not on their radar. Many of the mods actually improve the look of the feet and toes which aren't really well defined as they stand atm.

Maybe we'll get some improvements to our character models but I'm not expecting anything major.

Maybe if the footwear was designed to look like that intentionally. The 2B boots however are supposed to bend with your foot and last time I checked no human foot bends like that.

Is why Mao switched to Type 51 boots and legs. Is FAR less distortions.
