The whistle system was a fairly sophisticated system. But it was a system that was significantly rewarding for the effort you put in to learn the system. Efficiency aside this would allow pure entry-level crafters to craft anything without the need for significant melding, and in many cases would actually allow for skipping gear tiers, e.g., you could go straight from Twinsilk to Onishi
I would say don't knock the system unless you've tried it or at the very least have seen it in action - It was RNG, yes, but it was actually RNG that was well-designed. I would argue this to the death - The system Hunky is referring to (whistle) would have been perfect for expert recipes.
I'm too lazy to look up a "bait/troll thread" meme, so have a Mass Effect meme I already had open in another tab for some reason instead.

Oh no no no no OP is an actual long time player and is exposing all the bingers that populate these forums since the exodus
"RNG IS NOT DIFFICULTY IN CRAFTING" is the biggest red flag of a post pandemic player
I like to play easy and dumbed down jobs![]()
Why should i put more effort into something when i can play an easier version and do the same..
I want the little playtime i have to be fun..not waste it on bullshit content that makes things hard for the sake of it..
you are 100% correct but sadly to many here will defended any thing yoshi do even if he ask them to kill them self they will happy do it. so before we as players change mentally this going to be going on. in 7.0 you will see more of this, ranged jobs do as much do as male. then i think we will lose secondary stats at all. and god know what next.
I'm going to be "that guy" and I also know that I'm right.
The reasons they've dumbed down all jobs can be found here: https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...ral-Discussion
The vast majority of you need to make your minds up.
Thread is bait, but general PSA: Trying to give one example of "this really happened" and then trying to act as if it's anything but an absurdly rare anomaly doesn't get you far in a mature debate.
*Compares the amount of mechanics and their lethality in EW trials to early-expansion ones.* Say what? Then they started dumbing down the encounters too.
That's actually more about Pharos Sirius than it is the level 90 dungeons. Same with the first area in Aurum Vale. There have always been a couple dungeons here and there that were spikes in difficulty compared to all of the surrounding content. You could have said the same exact thing comparing Pharos Sirius to the HW dungeons, or the SB ones, and so on. PS being "more difficult" than later ones says more about PS than it does anything else. And they still do that - remember the last section of Mt. Gulg? Wall-to-wall that and it's significantly more difficult for a pug run than any of the subsequent Lvl 80 dungeons. But the worst isn't in Savage but in casual content. Somehow the latest Lv90 dungeons are still easier than pre-EW Lv50 Pharos Sirius.
This entire paragraph seems to conflict entirely with reality. FFXIV was always known for being harsh on elitism and being a ****, and ERP has always been a thing. And the community started to add to the coddling too. Whereas telling someone to get good was commonplace in HW and SB, it's now a probable report and ban. Mediocrity is celebrated left and right. From people talking about the game, sometimes even arguing, we now have people trauma-dumping their mental health issues in Limsa. And whereas ERP used to be frowned upon and mocked, we now have a playerbase that seems to embrace and celebrate it.
The end of your post can be summed up as "I'm stuck 20 years in the past and can't stand that humanity has progressed and left me behind, so I'm going to throw an immature temper tantrum." Casual-focused MMO's like FFXIV are successful because that's what most gamers today are looking for. Go back to the early days of WoW (~2005), and the "typical" MMO player was a teenager/college kid/recent grad, aka someone with a lot of time on his hands. Fast forward to today, and the "typical" MMO player is the same human being as before, except now they're adults with families and full-time careers. Your younger gamers with lots of time on their hands are playing mainly MOBAs and FPS games. Your MMO crowd largely doesn't have the time for intricately complex classes, highly-tuned dungeons/raids/etc.. Something that allows someone with limited playtime to still just jump in and feel like they've accomplished something is going to strike a chord with them. Heck, even Wildstar from 10 years ago showed how little staying power making an MMO focused on difficulty and that "old-school experience" has today.
Time? It's a skill issue lmao.
Do you realize that many high-end raiders actually play the least in this game? Like 4-6 hrs a week, that's 1 hr a day on average.
I know investment bankers and PhD students on the job market raiding in this game.
