How do you feel now that XIV has become an evenue/egasm paradise?

I also wanted to stay unbiased in the thread, but my opinion is I don't mind the Venue scene, and also ERP in general. But I think ERP specifically need to be in an environment that's properly regulated to take accountability on who's there, and what's happening. For XIV, we know a venue can't really blacklist people, and you can barely block people in general. So these scenes tend to create stalking and potentially grooming behavior that XIV just can't really combat. A lot of these things are pulled to Discord or other voice chat, so at that point it's also separated even further. If you know of them taking action on these things, I'd be curious to know the outcome.

If you say a venue verifies age and tries to manage attendees and members, it's still not properly regulated - Because the only one holding a venue accountable is themselves. So it's almost like a wild west.

Unfortunately XIV is pretty far behind when it comes to social systems to prevent stalking and bad behavior. But I guess that's the internet as a whole too.

A good, but cringe example of how to do this - as much as we want to make fun of Second Life, it's a game that knows what it is. It keeps all text and voice in-game, has age verification and maturity ratings for zones. If Players experience abuse, they can file the text and voice with screens/video and don't have to hide their ERP behavior.

I was asking you, OP. For some reason you had a day when you wanted to listen to somebody, so Im asking you. What, so far, did you took from this thread.

I'm still listening. The answers I'm seeing are that most people don't mind, though would prefer not to be spammed by Venue invites, or see them in PF. Some people have a mix experience of the Venue invites. I personally get spammed by them on Marilith, but others on different servers don't.

Edit: I think I get spammed because it's a new server and we have a lot of venues buying up houses here. Most of the venues I get spammed by are on Seraph.

There is no need for "regulations" for venues, we dont need a venue police, it's perfectly fine as it is, you dont put a police officer in front of a school because one time in 10 years (example) someone decided to come to the school with a knife.

Leave it alone, and for the love of god, if you dont like venues, stay away from them, thank you, you are not forced to go anywhere near them. You dont start making "regulations" because of 0.001% of people misbehaving.

Yeah I get that - I'm not saying you NEED to police these things. I just think there are better places to do them, because XIV just doesn't have a good environment for it when you rely on each venue to be individually accountable. I'm also not going to try to claim legal knowledge over *** trade practices in a modded game..

I was just giving an example of an environment that knows how to, by keeping everything in 1 place, controlling maturity levels, and using varied age verification.

I'm not sure why you're trying to attack me. The point of the OP was to ask about their experiences with Venues, now that we have a lot and we're getting adverts - Compared to say back in HW as an example. The Venue scene to me only really started ramping up after Shadowbringers, but not saying they didn't exist either.

How do they feel about them, and have they started to join in. Maybe they even started one. I'm getting perspective.

It's negatively impacted the reputation of the game, IMO. When I told some people I played FFXIV they asked me "Isn't that the weeb coomer game?" This whole evenue nightlife degenerate thing that's going on in the game is what some outsiders know this game for.

I would hardly call the game taken over by those things when outside of the venue ad spam, they have no impact on my game experience.

They're safely isolated into the housing wards for those into that sort of thing. They basically don't exist for the rest of us who aren't.

Saying "you all" is disingenuous and misleading. Only a couple of the players I know are into the venue scene. Most could care less.

It's only a problem for those who want to make it a problem.

I wonder if any of these people would’ve shrieked in horror at the game culture circa 2013-2020? When ERP was kept in private and modding was the funny but rare thing you were very careful about? Some of you realize that FFXIV didn’t start out as a sex sim, right? Like, that’s not why the game exists? The purpose of FFXIV wasn’t always as a porn engine.

I’m starting to think that the WoWfugee crisis bought in a lot of people who didn’t really want to play FFXIV.
