Nah. MMO doesnt need to be open world. It needs lively and reason to be in the overworld. FF14 areas are fine. The thing is, there is no reason to be in them.

Nice opinion, except nobody cares. Pure skill issue. Nobody else have this problem. And your idea would just kill the community. As a hunt train conductor myself, I hate slow trains. So get good or cry more. Whatever you like.

Open world content that isn't claim restricted or like maps would just get zerged. Anything that is communal would just spawn camped and fights would break out.

If it's zergable what's the point.

And having any meaningful rewards locked behind them would just be painful as hell. This is why instanced content became more prevalent.

On the other hand, it's useful when there are not enough people at the more quiet hours, or back when we used to have less active servers before cross-world PF existed.

World Visit is not the problem. The problem is that if SE wanted only 8 people to fight hunts then they should have made them like maps. Collect a hunt bill from a hunt board for a party, then go to the spawn point and you fight a hunt together, or execute a spawn condition lots of times until it spawns and then you fight it together.

In other news, there is no technical debt from 1.0.
"We don't have ... a technological issue that was carried over from 1.0, because ARR was meant to kind of discard what we had from 1.0 and rebuild it from the engine."

Yeah, I'm all for changing the ruleset for hunts. And to the ones who said they are having fun with other people, so is watching paint dry. That doesn't mean it's a good system.

Maps don't allow more than 8 people, as do dungeons, raids etc but somehow hunts should be exempt? Why? The overworld is boring enough as it is. The game should encourage groups but stop you from Zerg rushing. Even CEs from Bozja (y'know, the good FATEs) have an upper limit. I wonder why. lol

And, just to reiterate, it's first come first serve with hunts. No obscure Discord server/train has a monopoly on them. If I see a mob I'll ask people on the map to join as it's intended. Your server schedule is not my problem.

Changing that system would make the overworld infinitely better already.

FFXI tackled this concept pretty well. They could take the overworld concept from that game, battle mechanics, etc, and give it graphical upgrade as well as new story of course.

All I want is for actual fun leveling experience like in classic WoW. I want the game to start at level 1. I want the need to party up with other players to do quests out in the open and to have meaningful character progression.

Honestly FFXI is alot closer to the made up MMO's you see ppl playing in Anime. People could have different gearset builds for the same job to suit their preferred content or playstyle, the world wasn't littered with automatic markers showing every quest objective or little flags over every NPC that had a quest you can start. The world wasn't covered in fast travel points so you actually went out and saw the world when travelling to places. And the game had numerous reasons for players to actually interact with each other in game on a regular basis. It definitely felt more lively than FFXIV once you got past the initial rush in a specific area when new content was added.

TBH after watching the anime Bofuri I kind of hope the next FF MMO goes that route with player development as it appeared they literally crammed the MMO in that anime full of options and left the players to figure out what they wanted to do or essentially develop based on how they play the game... which is how the main character basically breaks the game because she doesn't think like a typical MMO player lol.

I honestly would've been fine with flying never becoming a thing because it seems like that came hand in hand with huge zones that have a whole lot of nothing in them.

I still think that ARR has the most interesting zones if we're strictly talking about XIV, sure they're small but they're also full of detail that just doesn't really exist in newer zones and the relatively small size made flying irrelevant, with riding maps it already took no time at all to traverse ARR zones.
