Twenty Seven Minutes of how the hell are my hands still functional

"I thought that my invincible power would hold the world captive, leaving me in a freedom undisturbed. Thus night and day I worked at the chain with huge fires and cruel hard strokes. When at last the work was done and the links were complete and unbreakable, I found that it held me in its grip." - Rabindranath Tagore

If you played FFXI for a significant amount of time, FFXIV would've initially felt like FFXI-2. Both games started with the same races, and the amount of enemies I randomly encounter as I progress through the MSQ that are copy&paste from XI make it feel like home for me.

Why on Earth would you EVER start development from literal scratch when you already have a gigantic massive library of assets you can use?? Are you completely insane? Did you want a 6+ year development cycle? Are you one of those people who thinks every game ever needs to have unique-never-before-used assets? For crying out loud, FromSoftware has been reusing assets for YEARS, because that's how an intelligent developer works. All recent Resident Evil games? All re-use assets from 7 and onwards. New assets are always made, but some other stuff just gets reused. That's game development for you. I also think it's insane that you're attempting to judge gameplay, music and dungeons of a 60+ hour game based on a 25 minute showcase. Then you go and show whatever church/temple they're in and call it a Vault copy. Because we've never had a temple-like dungeon ever before in any other Final Fantasy or in gaming, so obviously the only reasonable conclusion is that it's just a copy of The Vault.

?
you never hear about the BILLIONS of complains that Elder Ring reused the same assets and animations from Dark Souls 3?
https://www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/c...t_ive_noticed/

Nope, first of all because they're not billions and you're just using that word arbitrarily for shock value and actually means nothing. And second, because only insane people complain about such a common practice.
Best part is the link he posted about the supposed "billions" has 0 upvotes and only a handful of comments, most of which disagree with the original post complaining about reused assets.

Aside from what others have pointed out regarding the efficiency of re-using and then editing some assets, this is normal in general, used frequently in the FF series in particular, and something the general fanbase enjoys. I find it amusing that you mentioned Liquid Flame without pointing out (or perhaps realizing) that it first appeared as a boss in FFV. Other characters that have appeared in multiple FF's springing right to mind are Gilgamesh (FFV and FFIX) and Gogo (FFV and FFVI), not to mention all of the summons/espers/eidolons/primals/etc. that are a staple of the series and appear in practically every FF game from FFIV onwards. It's what connects the FF series and makes us smile.
Music "re-use" is also common. In the FF series, certain tunes like the Prelude and Prologue (now Main Theme) appear in most of the games. Other times, snippets of songs serve as inspiration for others (check out Relm's Theme from FFVI and then "Eyes on Me" from FFVIII). That happens outside gaming, too. Check out Hans Zimmer basing the main theme for Pirates of the Caribbean off of part of his Gladiator soundtrack.
In all, having some reused assets is in no way whatsoever mutually exclusive with also having "brand new" content.
