I don't really understand why people want them to be 'cute like the miqote or au ra', because we already have those two filling that 'niche' (if you can call something as widereaching as 'catgirl' a niche). I know a couple of furries and they've told me in the past (back when they actually played) that a massive part of the furry community was lamenting the fact they had no options really. They could only really go male mi'qote, or male roe if they were more into that. The release of Hrothgar was a massive cause for celebration for them (would be more so if they didn't have the hair/helmet issues). Female Hrothgar being actual beasts instead of 'Mi'qote again' would presumably be similarly received.
Also if it were up to me I'd have done Bangaa instead of Hrothgar. 'oh we can only do one gender sorry' would not have been an issue, because yeh, can YOU tell which of them was the female one in those Ivalice raid cutscenes? Also the 'we cant equip headgear' is a lot more justified when they have a snout that's a foot long. I'd also have done Ivalician Moogles (like the FFTA ones), because 'small, cute, maybe slightly evil' niche is 100% dominated by Lalafell atm and it needs a shakeup. But SE made Montblanc, the premier example character for the hypothetical race, a regular FF14 moogle so that's a rip
Burmecians would be cool too, damn so many cool races we could have and they went for 'human with rabbit ears', and now some people are asking for 'human with cat ears 2'
Cool as the character is, you could replicate her ingame 90% of the way as a Mi'qote. If SE ever added 'Fake Elezen Ears' as a headwear glam item, so you could be, eg a Midlander with Elezen ears (like a certain cool character with a gun), you'd get even closer.
So designing a whole race to look that way, when you already have most of the tools to make this appearance on another race... I don't use the term 'such a waste' too much but this is one instance where I'd be bringing it out

Because its a Troll to get people riled up...which has worked on me quite alot XD
And, because there are people that buy into the idea that it would = More money and be all popular if they screw over the Exact Niche this Race applies to, and they just do a tiered & lazy Trope of: ""Ugly, beastly" Men, and Cute Human Women with animal ears & tail. Something we already have 3x. Miqote, Au Ra and Viera.
Or, Ive run into 1 person way before a few years ago, that believes the mural and now the Artbook image is Gospel and is what they will look like...which I constantly call into question...but have noticed whenever I lay down an Observation that it makes no sense....it gets ignored and sidestepped and never refuted or combated...but anyway.
I do Love the Hrothgar, but I agree they could have done Bangaa instead, Burmecians could have been neat to.
It would be a Waste, and an absolute Tragedy.
I think a playable bangaa race would've had to be made-over too much for the sake of marketability -- even to the furry crowd, since scalies are basically a niche within a niche. I love bangaa (and seeq), but I think they're a much harder sell than something more recognizably mammalian.I don't really understand why people want them to be 'cute like the miqote or au ra', because we already have those two filling that 'niche' (if you can call something as widereaching as 'catgirl' a niche). And honestly, my one criticism of hrothgar's presence is just that I think it was a weird choice to add a second feline race to the roster, even though of course they fill a very different niche than miqo'te. And I understand the ronso angle; wanting to include another familiar concept with history in the franchise, like viera. But I do think promoting a beast race like the lupin would've been smarter, both in terms of diversity and marketability, imo. But c'est la vie. I still think hroths are a net positive.
At least we got the Ivalician moogles in the form of loporrits, I guess lol. I was def disappointed the game didn't go with that design from the onset, but I concede that what they went with is a lot more familiar. The Ivalician design was always the (much cuter) outlier.I'd also have done Ivalician Moogles (like the FFTA ones), because 'small, cute, maybe slightly evil' niche is 100% dominated by Lalafell atm and it needs a shakeup. Whoa now. Bangaa are mammals!
That's why I said "more recognizably". (* ̄▽ ̄)b
I agree 100%. Nothing against Hrothgar enjoyers, but I'd preferred that we got Burmecians, Bangaa or if they wanted another pretty race the Aegyl and I wouldn't be as pessimistic on there female versions as I am with Female Hrothgar's. Either they go 100% beast mode like males or we're going to end up with a Hairy Female Miqo'te with cheetah/lion ears.Cool as the character is, you could replicate her ingame 90% of the way as a Mi'qote. There is nothing wrong with them not being a giant furry. They look nice in that 3rd picture. I would prefer them to be smaller as well like how the Au Ra are. Just imagining it t makes me want it more! It would be so amazing!
