    Casual vs Hardcore

I think it needs to be a difference between hardcore and casual players, why does the casual player that only plays 1-2 hrs a day or less should be able to get the same gear/weapon as the guy that loves the game and has nothing else to do than play...
I dnt think Im expressing my self right but, FFXI was really good at telling the community, "Hey this guy plays the game all day and deserves to have a better gear then you have"
For the FFXI community, we all know how hard was to get Ultimas or Omegas gear or Defeat AV (almost impossible), and not even mentioning getting the relic weapons...
That makes the guy who owns the gear/weapon proud of the time expended... and the community at the same time to look at this character with respect and say "Shit look at him, /wave or /bow".
I remember in wow playing about 1-2 hrs a day I had top gear... PVP and PVE... in about 3 months or so...
I also really like the fact of having HNMS to be share with the whole world... "World HNMs" (example: Vtra, fafnir( dropping the valuable ridill)) with a 3day window, 24hr window... that makes the gear/weapon dropped by that HNM more valuable then a boss on a close Dungeon...

Thank you for actually knowing what casual vs core means.

And yeah. Someone who commits more time and effort won't bother playing if someone who hardley touches it can get the same shtuff. That's why I am in high praise of this relic weapon thing. It's something that will take a lot of time and work to get, and only players with enough patience will be allowed to get it.

But, the whole relic quest smells of "casual".

Casual Jimmy can get lucky and get stuff in a day, while hardcore Johnny couldn't get anything while spamming content in a week.

Casual Jimmy is not getting AV drops anytime soon.

I don't think there's much to explain about the scenario. It's what everyone's been saying, that anyone with a bit of luck
can get content while someone that actually invests time doing things might have horrible luck. But let me explain why I say "casual".

As of right now, most achievements are luck based. While there's skill involved in getting the content into farming mode (and actually clearing it the first time) but at the end, while opening that chest the only thing that's standing between you and the loot/gear is the RNG.

Many (myself included) have said that this is done to prolong content. But if you think about it, the whole luck thing can also be used to appeal the casual gamer. The casual or even the core gamer won't spend that much time in-game, so let's give them content that can be done at any time, content that comes with the drop rates many hate. Perhaps that's the reason why we don't have long re-entry timers? Or why the 5th chest at the end of the raids is based on doing it as quick as possible?

As with the Relic weapons, well most of it is the same. You can't get the weapons by getting better at your job, you only get them by spamming the content while waiting for the seals to drop, getting hq mats, creating the class weapon, doing the double meld or doing several CC/AV runs (perhaps the only exception if the 100% drop rate thing was true) to see if you get the necessary items.

Hope I explained myself ;-; I'm horrible at doing it online.

    You did a fine job.

Now, I'm not exactly for luck based gameplay, however, it stands to reason that the more times you attempt it, the better chance you have to get it. A different way to handle it would be like a point system, but then you'd just get complaints about grinding which really are no more or less valid than the complaints we have now. In any case I think we would all like to see proper compensation for what we put into the game.

Now, nothing about this game takes 'skill'. Cycling through proper combos and paying attention to what to do in battle is more a matter of strategy. The game doesn't test our reflexes or ability to maneuver fights in a dynamic way. It's not an action game and what you are putting on the line is your time and attention. That's what you spend to get good at this kind of game.

The relic weapons aren't simply a matter of luck. Even at your luckiest, you still have to grind for company seals, go through rank 2 hamlets at the very least 3 times, have a gathering job strong enough/have enough money for high quality materials (if you're smart, you'll equip gear that ups the chance of HQ materials), have access to crafting job strong enough to meld 2 rare IV materia to a difficult to craft weapon, kill a stronghold NM, get rare materials from end game dungeon runs, and who knows what else.

Do you really and honestly think that a casual gamer can breeze through all of that based solely on luck? Because they'd have to be pretty damn lucky.
