especially one that you can draw from while crafting without having to enter and back out of retainers 20 times as you figure out what you need, please. the materials take up so much space in the retainers, even with a purchase of an extra retainer, there is so much between all the expansions. i am not hoarding Everything, but trying to craft my own gear and accessories as i level as well as keep things for glamours and possibly furniture or other crafts, there is just so much. i don't know what to DO running out of space and holding onto things and gathering things is so frustrating because of the limited retainer space. crafting and gathering would be so much less stressful if we had a dedicated storage space for materials! is it please possible?

Only save what you need and is annoying to get by... if you have a stack of 20 or something of whatever ore... just sell it off, you can easy get those things back again, also you can get a bunch more retainers, however ONLY save what you need and or eg. materials bought with other currency such as Grand Company seals etc.

You have infinite storage, in a way.

There's a place you can store items. Deposit your items, get gil. Then when you want to retrieve the item, you pay gil. Sometimes you pay a little more than when you deposited it. Sometimes you pay less.

It's called the marketboard. Dump your stuff. Don't hold anything you aren't using in the very near-term. You can also stop paying for all those extra retainers if you aren't carrying the entire catalog of gathered and crafted materials on your retainers.

as a newbie to this side of the game it's very overwhelming to get into crafting and gathering and i just think it would be a massive QoL change if something was done. even higher level crafts use a lot of lower level materials so if you dump them all just because you outlvl the material means having to go back and lksfgkjsdlf TIME-CONSUMING

We understand how overwhelming it can be. We were all new players once upon a time. We all had to learn the system.

But I have the advantage of experience to know that most materials are not worth keeping if I make a new character and level crafting/gathering. This is a chance for you to learn from our experience.

We've been told flat out by SE there will never be crafting material specific inventory. When they're able to increase inventory space, it will be general inventory. We're passing that information to you.

We learned that hoarding does not help. The additional time spent trying to juggle current inventory is just as bad if not worse than the time spent to acquire materials when needed. The only things worth keeping are the rare materials or the materials you are using regularly.

The demand for lower level materials in higher level gear recipes is minimal. It's really not worth keeping them on hand for later, especially if you're buying most of your gear with Poetics.

If you're insistent on keeping materials regardless, at least make use of the "Search Recipes Using This Material" subcommand. Make certain there is a higher level recipe that you will be crafting and that does require the material, and that you're going to need enough of the material to be worth reserving an inventory space for a stack of it. It's not worth it if you're going to need 2 Darksteel Nuggets to make a single piece of gear and that's it. In that you have an advantage over us - that Search feature is a relatively new addition to the game. You'll start getting a better idea of just how little those materials will be getting used in higher level recipes.

I should add that since you're on Marilith, there are going to be times that the Dynamis marketboards will not have enough of what you need. I've run into that problem with my Marilith characters on occasion. Make use of data center travel to get bargain prices on a lot of crafting materials, and bring back extra to sell for profit to others who will also need those materials.

I'm frequently picking up stacks of materials that sell for 3k+ each on Marilith for 500 each on Primal or Crystal (Aether prices tend to be bad compared to those 2). Unless I've got a huge shopping list, I'm usually there and back in less than 5 minutes. I use what I need then sell the rest.

The devs have explained over and over why they won't do this.

Basically, they don't want to arbitrarily limit what you can store where. If they ever manage to increase inventory sizes they want to make it usable for EVERYTHING, rather than limit it to just bait, or crafting mats, or whatever.

It takes some experience to assess which things are valuable and should not be deleted or sold.

If it just sits in your inventory forever and you don’t use it, it brings no value anyway. Right click-> check what you can craft. Check the MB if you want. If something has been sitting in your inventory for months, you don’t need it. Do it as you go, don’t wait till you have a long list of items. I only keep a few mats for what I currently craft regularly. When I get the one off rare mat, I check the MB to see if it is better to craft or sell as is.

As for fashion report, about 90% of the time it’s dyes sold by Namabe and gear from dungeons, cheap stuff from Gwalter and/or sub items. You only need 100pts once for the achievement after that 80pts is all you need for max reward. Keeping mats for this is useless.

Get rid of old trophies and books that sit in your inventory.

If 10 retainers are not enough (no reason it’s not enough - you are hoarding), create an alt, level it up till you get access to retainers, put it in the same fc and send items to your alt via the fc chest. That will add 10 more retainers for free.

Seriously. Also the old story-mode raid parts. If you have the mount from an extreme trials, toss the totems. Any raid that is pre-80, I'd definitely toss all the books/tokens/parts etc. If you have extra rare FATE parts (like David Beads, Chi Bolts, Formidable Gears, Couerlregina horns - toss all of those if you already earned it.

I bet a player could easily fill a retainer with all of this junk. Possibly two.
