I've built an entire narrative story around my (haunted) house and the residents who used to live there. It's told via the front placard, the names and descriptions of the FC rooms, and the guestbook entries within the main home and the FC rooms. Once I spent about 2 weeks and ~30 million gil decorating, I used it as a place to just chill between roulettes that isn't a crowded, laggy, busy city with bots hiding underneath the aetheryte to screw up the draw distance.
I spent years trying to get a house. I sure as shit wasn't about to be that guy with the empty front yard and the locked, empty interior.

AFK there... alone...
But it is fully decorated![]()
If I had a house I would do the same thing I did in SWTOR or ESO. I'd decorate it, and use the garden, and that's about it. Can't imagine paying a sub JUST for a house in FFXIV to be honest.
i spent almost as much gil furnishing the house as i did buying the bloody place, as for what i do with it well its my limsa away from limsa, i have npcs to repair my gear attach materia to my gear its got an armoiry a company chest retainer bells aesthetician. when iam not out doin stuff in the world iam usually afk at my house between roulettes my house has everything the major cities has except for a glamour dresser

Same.
42 million Gil for the lot and easily have that in eastern indoor pond's and verdant partition's.... alone.
(note: I crafted about 2/3rd's of those while slow gathering resources, and running the dungeon that drops ver. part's, and bought the rest when I was ready to end the project.)
Cool I'll be sure to stop by and take a looki spent almost as much gil furnishing the house as i did buying the bloody place, as for what i do with it well its my limsa away from limsa, i have npcs to repair my gear attach materia to my gear its got an armoiry a company chest retainer bells aesthetician. when iam not out doin stuff in the world iam usually afk at my house between roulettes my house has everything the major cities has except for a glamour dresser

My first house I ever got lead to a sudden surge of leveling ALL the crafting/gathering jobs I barely ever touched in order to be able to make my own decor.
Later on, it was just nice to have a place I could return to that was near a market board, had retainers and vendors, my own orchestrion playlist on auto-play and a farm plot (admittedly I didn't get into that for very long, but to my knowledge it's still locking behind owning a house), and took literally 2 seconds to reach the door after teleporting.
I recently gave my 3rd house up(As in I've owned and then lost/relinquished one 3 times, did not own 3 at a time somehow) as I was barely playing, and felt I was wasting the spot for someone who'd have more use for it.
If I ever feel the urge to own one again, I'll try again.

visiting it, when receive a demolition notice, coz its a dead place.

it's like the only place I spend my time.
Retainers are in there, merchants, gardening, my trophy room, the market board is right out front, it's cheap to teleport to even from space
it's basically my base of operations. Brimming heart houses have a giant hot spring swimming pool for a front yard too with a huge windmill casting a shadow over it so it's a pretty nice place to just /waterfloat and relax a while
