Not realistically, because while lore-wise it's the same item with every weapon, functionally it is tied to each individual weapon.

"Upgrading" the box would have to be able to change that part on every model, including pre-existing ones that previously showed the un-upgraded version, and I would be surprised if they have the capability to do that (or they probably wouldn't be tied together in the first place).

Maybe if they converted it to a fixed offhand weapon like the spearfishing gig, with a small number of glamour options, but not in its current state.

I would take that as an option sometimes a box sometimes a backpack. I mean in the future they could always change this to another simple design that just alternates with each weapon kinda like how SGE has weapons that drape down and other that form a star.
