    90002 Error After a Few Minutes on Aether-Siren (PS5)

Since March 2nd, 2023 I have been unable to play my main character (Abbie Cantrell on Aether-Siren) on my PS5, where I have played mostly without issue since around July of 2021. I say mostly because in the month or so leading up to this, I had been experiencing some lag every once in a while (usually while crafting and tending garden) where the game would hang for a few seconds and the disconnect icon would appear briefly near my character's head. It never stayed for long and I never got forcefully disconnected, though.

Since March 2nd (after doing the Little Ladies' Day event and logging out without issue the day before), however, I am able to log in every time, but after a few minutes of interaction with the game world (checking retainers, tending to garden in private home, etc.) I begin getting disconnection icons near my character's head that stay longer and longer until I eventually get booted to character select with a 90002 error. It doesn't seem to matter when I try to play or what I try to do. Going to a less congested place like my housing instance rather than the middle of Gridania seems to let me stay logged in a little longer, but it still happens eventually (sooner if I try to interact with the garden or enter my house).

Things I have tried since to resolve or figure out what was going on:

    - Resetting router/modem (didn't work)
    - Trying another router (didn't work)
    - Deleting and reinstalling game on PS5 and deleting local saved data (didn't work)
    - Waiting for the all worlds maintenance on the 6th (didn't work)

    - Moving the affected character to another data center via data center travel (seemed to work when I selected Dynamis-Seraph. I was able to run around and interact with NPCs without ever getting a disconnect icon or being forcefully logged out.)
    - Playing another character (Summer Cantrell-Behemoth) on a different data center (Primal) - (worked/no issues)
    - Playing a new character (Sierra Lockhart-Jenova) on the same data center as the affected character (seemed to work with no issues for the few hours played after skipping the tutorial)

I am completely stumped on what might be causing the problem. I suspected it might be a bad node or something ISP-related with my connection to the Aether data center, but wouldn't my new character on Jenova be affected if that were the case? If it were something related to my character like bad data or something, the reinstall should have cleared that out if it was on my end, right?

Though I could technically keep playing my main character using data center travel, not being able to use my retainers, play with my house, or do things with my FC (something I had hoped to do more of once I completed the MSQ) is a real bummer and moving my character somewhere else permanently (besides costing money) would cause me to lose the house I finally won after entering so many lotteries.

I love the game, though, and am hoping someone can help or that the issue resolves itself in a reasonable amount of time.

    Greetings sierrabyte!

I'm very sorry to hear that you've been experiencing connectivity issues. Are these still occurring at this time? If they are, please try the following troubleshooting to see if this helps with the connection issues you are experiencing.

The issue you are describing is most associated with interference with the game data. Most of the time, it results from certain security/privacy changes on PSN web browser. Please make sure that "Cookies" and "JavaScript" are ENABLED on the PSN Browser. This can be done by going to the web browser on the PlayStation, press the options button, then go to settings. The options for Cookies and Javascript will most likely be checked, uncheck them and then recheck them.

Next, check to see if the following port ranges are opened on your router. You can contact your ISP and request they open them for you
    ▼TCP
    54992 through 54994,
    55006 through 55007,
    55021 through 55040

If you do not see an improvement, please feel free to respond to this thread for further troubleshooting.

Thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums

Thank you for the response. The issue is still occurring but, as mentioned, only on my main character on Aether-Siren. I can still log in and play characters on other data centers/worlds, including a new character I created on Aether-Jenova for testing purposes recently.

I tried both of the solutions you mentioned, but unfortunately, neither seemed to help. The PS5 had an additional option under Settings -> System -> Web Browser called "Prevent Cross-Site Tracking" that was enabled by default along with the Cookies and Javascript options. I wasn't sure if it had anything to do with the problem but I un-checked and re-checked it along with the other two. The ports you mentioned are open on my router (which is mine and does not belong to the ISP). I also tried another router that I had been using for years before I upgraded to my current one around half a year ago.

If it helps, my PS5 is connected to the router via ethernet, I live in Deep South Texas, and my ISP is Spectrum. I work from home a lot and usually log in around 3:00 pm CST, playing until around 5:00 or 6:00 until this issue started happening.

I couldn't get in touch with anyone at Spectrum beyond a basic support tech who just told me to reboot everything, but I will try again tomorrow. The tech I talked to seemed to be out of answers and said he didn't think they would do anything to prevent me from playing the game recently, one that had been working fine for me up until this past month.

I, too, am confused as to why it is just my main character that can't log in and play for more than a couple of minutes. I'd actually feel a lot better about the situation if it was happening to all my characters, as then I would have more confidence that the issue was on my end. Instead, I can't help feeling as if I did something to glitch my character somehow though I really didn't do anything out of the ordinary except add a bunch of overmelded materia on my crafters' and gatherers' gear, which I had just started doing the week this happened.

I just wanted to post a quick update to say that I'm still dealing with this issue. I've had to resort to data center travel (to Dynamis-Seraph) in order to play my main character for any reasonable amount of time. Since retainers aren't available when using that option, I've had to periodically return my character to her home world to store and retrieve items quickly before I get forcefully logged out. It really sucks going back and forth, which I have to do in the dead of night to avoid long transfer times when I actually have time to play, but that's pretty much all I can do for now.

I still don't understand -- if the problem is truly entirely on my end -- why I haven't been experiencing connection issues with my main character on Dynamis or my alt character on Jenova. I thought the NA data centers were more or less in the same location but even if they aren't, surely I'd be having connection problems on Jenova as it should be in the same place Siren is, right? Or is it just that my main character has more leveled-up classes and stuff that causes her to get disconnected while my pretty-much-new character is able to stay logged in even when they are both standing around doing nothing in the same area?

In any case, I guess I'll stick it out and hope that the server hardware upgrade that's coming does something to make my main character more playable on her home server. I somehow doubt it will but I've pretty much tried everything else (that is possible on a system with very few configuration options like a PS5 anyway).

The most recent world maintenance/server hardware upgrade seems to have resolved the issue for my main character on Aether-Siren, as I've been able to play two consecutive 3-4 hour sessions the past two evenings without any disconnection icons appearing or forced 90002 error disconnections.

I'm not sure if it will last but at this point, I'm resolved to play on Siren for as long as I can until it becomes unplayable again then consider leaving for a new data center/world or quitting depending on my interest in the game at that point in time.
