It depends entirely on the individuals.

Sometimes two people don't see the internet as serious as real life, and view anything online as virtual, not serious, not realistic, just some fun and friends.

Sometimes at least one of them does see it as serious, a massive betrayal of trust and leaves them over it.

I have met both types of people, so I just accept that both perspectives exist and that if someone is doing that, then in their real life relationship that is fine.

Honestly I think it is between the people involved.

I know in another game (that my irl hubby did not play) Another family member pretended to be my husband in game to protect me from some rather extreme weirdos we were having a problem with. We all discussed it and the irl hubby agreed it was a good plan. There were no problems BECAUSE we had settled it before hand.

EDIT: TO clarify there was absolutely no Pixel bumping hanky panky going on in ANY way. Simply a way to get some sickos to back off nothing more.

This is one of those things that can widely differ between person to person so there isn't a wrong answer.

Me personally...if I was dating someone and then found out they are "dating" someone online and in game I would have an issue. No yelling or anything from me. I would just tell them we clearly need different things or I alone can't supply what they want so we just need to make a clean break. No point getting mad...just end it and move on.
