Before then they would slowly walk back with their normal aggro and linking triggers active. So as ppl kept entering the area the train would aggro on them, kill them, and the process would just keep repeating lol. What made it even worse is all the active mob pathing caused the zone to have a ping over 10K so the ppl entering would wait a bit just to see the area finally load with them dead on the floor. XD
I haven't been back in EQ in years to know if they ever changed that, but that was pretty much our reality. Mobs would chase your forever and you could only escape by zoning, which is why "Train to zone!" was something commonly heard. Griefers would use this to their advantage in heavily populated areas.

FFXI was kind of interesting when it came to aggro. Mobs would have aggro/link triggers like sight, sound, low HP for undead, casting magic for elementals, etc. But after aggro they would have a tracking trigger which often could be different than the aggro trigger. The most noticeable instances of this was with monsters that tracked by smell as they'd de aggro when you ran through a body of water.

Everything in EQ just wanted you kill you pretty much all the time and would follow you to the ends of Norrath to do it. Even things that were grey to us, which meant it was way lower level, would pester us if we were sitting around regaining mana. We were given things like invisibility, levitate, Spirit of Wolf (movement speed), invisibility to undead, snare (slowed mob movement speed), mesmerize and charm (crowd control) and other skills to use to make our way to our desired camp spots.
