I don't really see the point of having alts in this game, but that's just me, I have a character on EU and one on NA, but that's really it, no point to have more, even to join a wedding you can level to 10-15 (I think ?) and that's enough

Endgame is the where the game ends, and the grind starts. Certainly not the strong point of this game.
The MSQ and the sidequests is where the fun is, so it is a good thing there are so much of it.
That's really debatable, a lot of people obviously disagree, that's why the boosts for MSQ and level boost are on top sales every single week. Else they wouldnt sell at all and they wouldnt even exist.

That really is your opinion, a lot of people disagree else the boosts wouldnt exist because they simply wouldnt sell.
Nah the main buyer of the boosts are those 2-3 forum trolls that seem to have a new max level alt every week to post with.

Dont wake up Titanmen and his army of alts, he's been a bit quiet lately, except if he's that reaver person too, actually probably..

While I cannot give a specific date on when personal housing will be implemented, I can say that prices will be completely separate from free company housing, and, naturally, far more affordable.

I like to have a few alts. I rushed the story on my first character to reach endgame and play with friends, on my 2nd one I decided to do everything (there’s not a single quest left in Eorzea), take it slowly and enjoy the MSQ. My other ones are mainly to play with friends elsewhere or to try new things. When in the same fc, it also means extra free storage. I prefer alts to using fantasia potions. I’m fine with the MSQ (I don’t want it pre completed on alts, maybe have an option but not auto-complete).

What I find is really lacking is the possibility to share a house and items (other than through an fc). Mogstation unlocks should also be account wide and so should some achievements. Having MSQ completion achievements tied to character makes sense but things like comms, gather or craft x thousand things could be account wide.

Fully agreed. People need to realize that Final Fantasy XIV was never meant to be everyone's "main game". It's a part-time, mostly-single-player game that you beat and put back on the shelf once you're done. It cannot possibly please anyone, and never had the potential to compete with World of Warcraft or other big-name MMOs. It's a smaller, niche product that appeals to a very small segment of the population.

The real problem is the wave of streamers and "e-celebs" who marketed FFXIV as a WoW replacement back in 2021 when it clearly wasn't supposed to be. 1.3 million players is unhealthy and unsustainable for a game this niche, as it creates unrealistic expectations. The developers don't want this to be the next WoW. They didn't even want to make 2.0: they had to, to avoid a total collapse of their company. And everything since then was carrying the weight of those mistakes to please shareholders.

This game had a hard life. Anyone expecting anything from Square Enix (you know, the NFT company) is in for a rude awakening.

There are a couple of reasons for having alts.

One of them being housing. While you can only have a house per Server, you can have multiple apartments or FC rooms. With 6.4x Island Sanctuary will also support outdoor furnishings, adding more to the list, and increasing minimum level requirements from 50 to 90(MSQ cleared). People who like decorating currently have to remove their designs before being able to build new ones. Not to mention, that at some point furnishings will start filling up too much inventory space.

The second reason is raiding. Players in a static may want to help others out. This requires an additional character to circumvent loot restrictions.
Deep dungeons may also be a possible reason, if someone is running those with more than 2 groups.

And there is roleplaying too. People like playing as different characters. Those of course have to be perfectly glamoured, so staying at low levels is not an option.

That being said, and being an altoholic myself, I agree that SE is not forcing anyone to buy story skips though. Clearing the MSQ takes a lot of time, and it can feel exhausting once alt numbers are in double digits, but there is no reason to rush either.

I also wish for a better solution or even having account-wide progress on the MSQ. But I would not go as far as stating that SE is forcing me to buy anything.

Like I almost finished them in every Map with only a few having good stories behind them. All these quests...these...
    • Pick items off the ground
    • Unskippable slow-motion multiple choice cutscenes
    • Forced mount riding scenery
    • Say this dumb word/sentence/emote at specific npc/spot
    • Discount FPS simulator
    • Warrior of light/ grab this box and carry it yonder
    • Beckon this slow-motion having ass NPC's
    • Weaken x mob and capture it with something
    So much Quests so much woah, much fun, much woah. Look it's cute the first few times... but after a while =u=;

I've been playing MMOs since 1999. I tend to have alts in other games, especially where you're limited to one class. I have alts here. But I also recognize that this game has a different setup. One of the strengths is that you can try all classes on a single character. That was one thing that forced us to have alts in past MMOs and that requirement doesn't exist here. And so I know that alts, while a valid choice, are still a choice in this game and not a necessity. So I do what's necessary to see them progress, be that story skips or playing through the MSQ again.
