Is there a buff focused healer?

    Hey everyone

As the title asks, is there a healer in this game who focuses on buffing their team or at least has plenty of buffs within their skills?

I used to play Aion years ago and loved the Chanter class which was heavily buff focused in terms of damage and crit boosting, resistance and shielding, speed boosting and more. I've not found a class quite like it in other MMOs since.

I've only played White Mage so please excuse any ignorance or lack of knowledge about this, but thought some people on the forum may know the classes best to direct me into one who is similar.

AST is technically the buffing healer.

But by buffing, what that actually means is you'll still be slamming your nuke the same as everyone else, just with a frantic burst of buffs in between every 2 minutes.

Hopefully it's likely rework addresses this and makes the buffing aspect a more central and key part of it's kit rather than the garnish that it currently is.

    Hi there

I played Aion from closed beta until about 2 years ago, I was a sorc main in that game but also had max level cleric and chanter that I also played. Unfortunately I find that while there are more healing jobs (classes) in this game, it's deceptive since they've been rather recently homogenized and the pure/barrier split that was rather recently introduced has received mixed reviews. All of them are casters, there are no staff-wielding melee healers like chanters, and none have mantras like a chanter.

if you were to pick AST, that would be the closest- however the gameplay is nothing like a chanter, in that you are locked into the lowest personal DPS job in the game, with almost no DPS skills, and you need to target specific party members in order to buff them , you don't have passive mantras. Your selection of buffs is very limited and unlike Aion are subject to RNG- over which you have very limited control (you can "redraw" for example if you want tor reselect, but that is limited).

So while chanter was an extremely well designed class in Aion whether in group/solo/PVE/PVP - I would say that AST is closer to a healspec cleric with a little RNG minigame tacked on

Buffs in FFXIV aren't too prevalent in general (I'm guessing they worry too much about balance issues), but AST is probably what you're looking for if you want a healing/buffing type of Job to play. AST has multiple party buffs they weave in between their damage and healing spells, and since a lot of their damage comes from buffing party members instead of personal DPS, it has a stronger focus on that aspect, though the buffs are pretty neutral fare of damage increases, mainly. Though I suppose you could consider its various mitigation tools as buffs in a way.

If you prefer a more offensive buffer, DNC would probably be a bit closer to that, but I don't play it or know too much about it, so can't speak on it too authoritatively.

If you want something that focuses on buffing/has plenty of buffs, those are probably your two best options. though AST will be getting some kind of rework in 7.0 for the new expansion, so they may shift it to focusing more (or less) on that, we'll have to see in about 8 months (well, probably a bit sooner from some of the Fanfests or something...)
