    Swapping gear takes the fun out of the game by turning it into a pointless equipment hoarding and macro building experience with the objective of min-maxing and squeezing in few single-digit %s in parsers. I'm completely against it. You should research which piece of gear affects your overall performance in every battle situation and stick to it.

    Gear swaps were understandable in FFXI because you HAD to make macros unless you wanted to navigate a million menus. In FFXIV you already have all your abilities there and I don't see the point for redundantly making a macro for each ability like in FFXI. They should furthermore prevent casters from gear swapping too since melee can't do it and that's an unfair advantage. Apart from that, I get sick every time I see casters disappearing or blinking for 3-4 seconds before casting a spell, and I know they're swapping gear. It completely ruins my immersion.

    We'll take it into consideration.

    I agree with this so much, keep gear swapping away from XIV. My best friend and I played XI from release til xiv came out, maybe we're in the older (age wise 29 and 30, respectively) bracket of players (I don't really know for sure) but we both work full time and never were able to complete the more hard core quests for stuff which would have been useful to swap out. And we were given a lot of flack for it. And many of the people in our current LS are not playing XIV 40+ hours a week, either. I don't know many people who have that kind of time, in game. So please, no gear swapping. Inventory can get cluttered easily as it is already.

    Gear swaping in 11 is what kept the game relevant at lvl 75 for so many years, gear 8yrs old+ was still used. All gear swaps do is add another element to the game for people to do, some of the people on this thread are claiming they "did fine" on 11 without using gear swaps, so why would you hate if it was added if it wouldnt effect you?

    Gear relevance is a big deal with me atleast, after Darkhold was released, it lasted what... like a month before ifrit was, so we spent a month spamming darkhold doing speed runs trying for those weapons, then they got out-dated. keeps happening with every update, not sure how thats fun, but i guess most think it is.

    Use the search box, enter "gear swaps", hit enter. Gear swaps introduce many more problems than they do solutions.

    But you didn't do fine without swapping. Difference in performance was very notable between someone who swapped and someone who didn't. Not to mention swaps led to stupid things like cure cheat macros, which I absolutely abhorred. It would be fine if there had been some passive buff that increased the effect gear had on you the longer you went without swapping, so that I could have bypassed the need to swap entirely. Alas, swappers won the game, people who didn't swap sucked and were gimp. All because the devs were too damn lazy to fix that oversight in design early on.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
    * Design ideas:

    Aye it really didn't take much to tell who was and wasn't utilizing swaps, and it really encouraged alot of script macros in order to optimally perform with gear, unless you happened to be very creative with macro setups (very few of which were).

    To be perfectly honest even though the macro lists in FFXIV are much larger than in FFXI, I think script macros will still be created and abused like in FFXI once more situational gear becomes available. In my opinion it wouldn't be fair to implement a system that would eventually encourage cheating in order to compete in any environment, and at the same time we would actually have room in our inventories to carry gear for the other jobs we may use in a given situation instead of waiting 20 minutes for Jim to transfer 50 pieces of gear off his mule/retainer/storage so we could have a WHM for an event.

    Oh who is scared of gear swaps? I think it actually comes down to people seem to not want a unnecessary and useless system put into the game... and yes it really is unnecessary and it is useless.

    Oh but I forget you humans love unnecessary and useless things don't you... it is why you cling to old things and old ways so much hmmm... maybe that is why you are still alive... for now anyways...

    I guess in your opinion it may, another element making people learn their jobs more in depth and keeping a large portion of gear relevant for later years in my opinion would outweigh people's "personal" life scheduals. If gear is constantly outdated more casual players can never be made happy unless content is easy, because the content is only relevent for a month, maby two, then you will never find a group to do it, if you expect to get that gear within that time, it honestly has to be easy.
