Looking for fitting symbols for a blanket-project

Hello,

I know its not really about lore, but its lore-related, so probably the best place to ask for suggestions!

A coupld of years ago I made a patchwork blanket with cross stitchings of all the FFX summons - I would now like to start a new, similar project with the symbols of The Twelve (this time using a satin stitch). Each symbol will be stitched on a fabric with the corresponding colour, using either golden or silver yarn (depending on the symbol). I want to arrange them in a circle that reflects the circle they're arranged in according to lore. That leaves a lot of open squares, which isnt really an issue for the most part. However, I would like to add something to the middle 4 squares that fits the whole theme - preferably both in lore and in style (as in: symbols that can be worked with minimal colour). Other squares would also be open, though - so suggestions that would need 6 or 8 or 10 squares would also be possible!

I'd be grateful for any ideas that would fit both the theme and the number of sqaures! Ideal would be things that are "future-proof" (as in: things where its highly unlikely that new ones are going to be added - job symbols for example are likely to expand, while I assume that The Twelve are "done", even if theres a mysterious 13th god after all...!)

Since the Marks of the Twelve are spread across La Noscea, The Black Shroud, Thanalan and Coerthas, how about the symbols/coat-of-arms of Gridania, Limsa Lominsa, Ul'dah and Ishgard? Though I'll admit perhaps those are too involved symbols, but I think they can be simplified for a crafts project.

Thank you! I had been considering this - the coat-of-arms definitly arent to bad to stitch (I've done Limsas flag a few years back), but even though theres not stone in Ala Mhigo I'd feel bad about leaving them out (and with Ala Mhigo it would be 5, so no nice way to fit them all in).

What about the Mothercrystal? (Symbolizing Hydaelyn naturally). If the actual graphic of the Mothercrystal is too detailed, there is the 'Mark of the Twelve'/Legacy Mark tattoo that is strongly hinted to represent the Mothercrystal (I found a graphic of it online without too much trouble, but being a third party site I won't link it here).

Another alternative is Azem's solar symbol on the Azem crystal, which.. is kind of appropriate (but I think Hydaelyn would be a more fitting symbol in the centre.).

Either way, that is a wonderful project Vidu!

Thanks, thats a wonderful idea, I really like it! Specially after looking at a coupld of images and being at least 90% certain that the Mark of the Twelve appears in the middle of the "summoning circle" Louisoix uses when calling The Twelve during the opening squence of ARR - so unless I have some sort of ephinay down the line, I think I'll put it in one big middle sqaure (basically covering the 4 ones I've been thinking about). Now I just need to pick colours!

Could you draw some reference from the Omphalos for designs and patterns used there?

Depends on when the OP wants to have this project complete by.

We're not that far away from getting some final details. Patch 6.38 will be next week, and the timing of Friday's Live Letter means that 6.4 is only a few weeks away. That puts 6.5 and the last section of Myths of the Realm likely around August/September, which will give us much more information about the Twelve and probably confirm who the final mystery member of the group is (given that we only have three of them left for four encounters). If this is something that you might consider submitting to the NA FanFest in the event that they end up hosting an art event again this year, then you might have to make a wild guess prior to 6.5 (perhaps Etheirys, the Moon, a reference to the Watcher's tower, or an Elpis bloom). If you have no time constraint (or if you wanted to make an EU/JP submission) it may be worth waiting to confirm the complete set of details around the Twelve that we'll get in the final tier (and perhaps in any of the associated short stories, if they add more during the next Rising celebration).

The other point worth considering is that you could always make this into a reversible (i.e. double-sided) quilt, revealing some associated or hidden aspect of the twelve on the other side when you flip it over.

This Friday's live letter is only part one, part two is a month away so patch 6.4 is around the middle of May. So a bit longer than what you theorized.

But I agree that perhaps general ancient and Venat/Hydaelyn references could work for the middle (Elpis, the ancient mask, a moon etc) instead of going for straight up symbols. But that's prior to knowing the full story so it might be a bit awkward if there is plenty of red herrings lol.

Regardless of exactly when 6.5 is coming, it does sound like a smart idea to wait for the third chapter of Myths of the Realm to see what we learn there – otherwise they might do something really cool that you'll wish you had integrated into the design.

I will say, if you're picking now now rather than waiting (I don't know how long a quilting project like this takes, so waiting until future patches might leave you with a lot of downtime or something), there's a few options I'd pick. I'd actually steer clear of the Azem crystal, just because I think that would be pretty dull as a centerpiece.

-The Mothercrystal, as Enkidoh said.
-Sinus Lacrimarum, A.K.A. the Watcher's tower, as the 'unnamed Thirteenth'. Whatever the Watcher does in the alliance raids, that'll hold.
-Stylized Hydaelyn, borrowing from the Qitana cave paintings. Either just the abstract Hydaelyn or the full picture of the leg drop, your pick for how fancy you wanna get.
-Venat's sword.
-Or just a white Ancient mask.

Thank you all for your ideas! I'm in no rush to make a decision - stitching takes a while, after all, so I might just postpone the final verdict til we have (more or less) all the information (and I dont plan to submit it to any arts contets - quite happy to just make these things for myself).
