Dude, like, what is even happening? (Submarine Progress)

I went insane and built 8 modified subs of various makes the last few weeks. 30-32 fully modified components (sterns, bows, bridges and hulls).

I have lost count of how many times I have had near 100/100 or outright 100/100 and it only gives normal progress. It isnt an anomaly either. Its the majority of them. However, I have gotten outstanding progress on builds that had near 0/100.

This isnt even a complaint, I just seriously dont understand why its so random.

Whats the point of 100/100 if its not automatic progress?

I do agree with this... I have also done quite a bit of submarine stuff. Personally, I find no logic in this... I get 100/100 once in a blue moon, and it gives normal progress. Meanwhile, sometimes I just randomly get Excellent progress. It's so weird... The 100/100 seems so pointless to me as well.

I was going out of my way to craft/purchase all HQ materials for turn ins, now I just dont even bother. I dont understand, but, I swear I get better results with normal materials.

IIRC normal materials is like a 25% chance to up quality while HQ is a 50% chance. I assume this is the same for the chance of progress where 100/100 isn't a 100% chance for Excellent or Outstanding progress. I agree that it kinda feels not worth it as someone doing workshop stuff.

Had no idea about those numbers at all. That SEEMS to be right and maybe I've just gotten bad rolls. I could see that.

it's just all pure RNG. quality progress on the bar does not translate in anyway to getting excellent or outstanding procs when you move to the next step.

    It's all completely random.

Using HQ materials offer no more benefit than NQ materials. That was thoroughly tested by a group of players back in late HW or early SB (can't remember which). There was no difference in quality assigned regardless of which they used. If your making your materials, might as well use Quick Synth then lower quality when done to save inventory space. If you're buying them, buy whatever is cheapest (some materials are extremely cheap even as HQ thanks to those farming Salvaged Accessories for gil) and again lower quality to save inventory space.

The quality bar on the Fabrication Station when building a part or house skin doesn't seem to mean much either. At best, it might indicate a slightly increased chance to get Excellent or Outstanding Progress. It feels like another lottery where you wait to see if you'll win. If you do, you get excited. If you don't, at least you still get the consolation prize (progress or completion of your project).

I've long since stopped paying attention to it since I can't control it in any way and getting the proc feels just as random as getting the quality bar to increase in the first place. I make sure I have all the materials I need if there are no procs at all. If I get lucky, then I've got materials saved for my next project or to sell on the marketboard to get back some of the original material costs.

Now I'm curious... If everything is just RNG, then what's the point of having a "100 pts system"? It seems like a feature to mislead players thinking HQ mat would play a role! LOL!

Probably the failed suggestion of some inexperienced game psychologist.

How to make what's an essentially boring task feel more exciting to a group of players? Let's turn it into a slot machine where the more little wins you get, the better your chance for a big win!

I don't think the intent was to mislead players about HQ. If I remember correctly, adding HQ materials would increase the XP earned by the submitting player (if that material submission would reward XP). I've got an alt without any DoH classes yet. Maybe I'll start leveling a couple and use it to submit materials on the next FC project that has XP rewards.

But for some weird reason, they decided to use the word quality again and that left the wrong impression. I wonder if the other localizations are similar or if they chose different words.
