Sometimes it requires reading the room, for sure. If it feels like things could get dicey (or they have already) then yeah, it's best to hold onto that Swiftcast. I have it hardwired into my brain to use it with Garuda, so sometimes I end up using it anyway.
But on topic...it all comes down to what people enjoy. Some like Dancer, while some do not. Same goes with Summoner.
I just loooove Dancer so much! It's so fun, like Simon Says and it's my favorite ff class of all time. Even in end-game content, I enjoy it so much and find it easy for clears.
Like, when I first heard of FF, I was like "I wanna be a Dancer", and I installed the game years ago with the sole intention of playing the class. Especially with its playstyle. So like, I started with Black Mage at 30, went to Dragoon and leveled it up in POTD to 60 (where my POTD love came from, this will be relevant later), and then, I was able to unlock Dancer. And man, I was so happy to get to play my favorite class that I never played before until then. And I've played it ever since, even a bit exclusively. However, as someone with Autism who struggle to socialize with people both online and offline, I always saw myself in and out of FCs, WoW guilds, and almost every community game, I often ended up leaving, kicked, and simply not fitting in. (I also used to Dance a lot irl, and used to be my favorite pastimes back in school)
So, my love for Deep Dungeons grew and grew, and is the reason I came back to FF each time because it was the only content where I could create goals for myself, look cool in, enjoy, and do solo. And man, when I first started FF, the Edda storyline really broke my heart. And man, once Crystaline Conflict came out and I saw that Dark Souls set, I was like broooo! And I love PvP games and PvP in games, so I had to get it. And I never seem to take it off, even now. So, Deep Dungeons always made me feel like, part of the FF community and didn't force me to interact with other people unless it was for floor 51 team runs. But even though, those interactions were quaint. And of course, as you all know, I played Dancer for PvP and Deep Dungeons, because duuuh, favorite class, and I find it so fun!!!
However, I've come into a crossroads, ENDWALKER SUMMONER! The absolute S tier gigachad god tier rework that made it one of the most braindead and broken classes in Deep Dungeons and even really good in PvP and other forms of PvE. And I'm like, I gotta get in on this, how am I, a filthy Dancing Calcabrina supposed to compete with this, another easy class like my waifu class? bah! No way this is my rival? right? right? This always brought me to a crossroad, because, as the lesser rainbow lightbright class, we do less damage, we are sucky at Deeps, sucky at PvP, meh at PvE. So I often see myself comparing my favorite class to Summoner.
So, I bought a boost, played Summoner, and yeah, big deeps, pretty fun, but it somehow doesn't scratch that entertainment itch Dancer has. With Dancer I feel like an anime character, and man, with I do my burst (i know it by heart), seeing the lights, feathers, and birbs, I can just see a monster is gonna get face rolled. Man, I love Dancer.
I wanna play the meta, but, Dancer is my waifu.

I'll give y'all one guess about my choice. uwu
Dancer, because it's one of the very few jobs that have any kind of reactionary actions, and the only job with direct synergy with the party due to dance partner.
Summoner is the most sterile and boring 'selfish DPS' of not only XIV but any mainstream MMORPG. But hey, braindead rotation, no need to remember your party exists, and flashy bang bang woosh shzaan wham woo visuals. Perfect for the average XIV fan who thinks raids are toxic.
That's got to be the worst take I've ever read on these forums.Dancer, because it's one of the very few jobs that have any kind of reactionary actions, and the only job with direct synergy with the party due to dance partner.

I really believe that's what this debate boils down to. Do you like casting or not?
If you like being a caster, you'll find summoner more fun. If you don't like being a caster, you'll enjoy dancer.

Depends on the person, really. I enjoy simple jobs, so both Summoner and Dancer are fine for me. Others might like Dancer more because it's less brain dead.
In PvP, I don't care for either. I mainly do Frontlines and I find ranged jobs are impossible to play due to their poor damage reduction. It allows Ninjas to simply teleport beside you, chop you down to half HP and then LB execute you before you can even react.
