    FFXIV Job Design Feedback

    Update

    Since this thread has been brought back, I wanted to update some of the information here on the original post. Since this thread was originally made, I later created a new series of surveys intended to gather information on what people want to see from specific jobs for the upcoming Media Tour. I am updating this thread to feature those instead, as they are more well-organized and have better, clearer questions to answer in regards to feedback. You can give feedback for any job by using the link below:

    If you would like to see the results of that feedback, you can return to any job's survey page and select See Previous Responses to view that data. When you complete a survey, you will need to scroll back up to the top of the page to see that option, or simply refresh the page. If you would like to view the data of a certain job, but don't feel comfortable giving feedback on the job, there is a silly question at the bottom of each survey you can enter and submit your response with while leaving all other questions blank. This will allow you to view the data of any job if you don't want to fill out its questions. You can also return to edit your responses at any time.

    1. I think the state of job design as of Endwalker is poor in design but quite good in balance, I don't think this design direction is at all sustainable long term, forcing every job to fit into a rigid 2 minute cycle is hurting job creativity.

    2. Definitely Stormblood.

    3. I believe that they should release official surveys, but I don't believe that they should tie rewards to it. Tying rewards to a survey will invite people who don't care and may just troll the results by marking everything randomly just to get the rewards. If there's no rewards or only minimal rewards, only the dedicated players will bother giving feedback, so they're more likely to get usable feedback.

    Just chiming in to submit for MNK.

    1. Job design has never been so safe and boring before. All jobs are slightly varying flavours of burst DPS with a lot of borrowed mechanics, meaning that a lot of playstyles that had once previously existed are no longer in the game or have any close equivalent such as Greased Lightning Monk or DoT management in SCH/SMN. I definitely don't think it's a direction SE should keep going in because it favours absolute balance above diversity of playstyles and skill expression.

    The development team needs to be brave enough to take risks and experiment with jobs. Let them take their own shape instead of perfectly tailoring their rotations to be as fool proof as possible.

    2. Stormblood without a doubt. It offered a good middle ground between both positives of Heavensward and Shadowbringers job design. It had its faults, sure- (TP, damage type debuffs, old aggro, etc) but it's nothing that couldn't of been ironed out with enough time.

    3. I would love official surveys, or any form of communication to let us know that the devs are actually listening to us instead of radio silence and huffing lethal doses of copium in hopes that Yoshi P reads a question related to job design in a Live Letter/Fanfest instead of solely picking inane story related questions only like what colour Emet Selch's underwear is or whatever.

    Incentivizing them with rewards however, is one sure-fire way to ruin it. You'd just end up getting a lot of dummy responses that provide nothing helpful because they just want the reward, which is a problem that Genshin surveys have.

    A lot of jobs feel the same, which takes away their identity. I understand why they are the same, it's to prevent players from picking the class and not the player.

    Doesn't change that what made them unique is almost gone.

    1) Job design is at the lowest it's ever been. It's overly safe, the skill ceilings are continuously being lowered in the name of accessibility for the people who refuse to learn and improve. More and more jobs are feel samey now that everything is being confined to 2-minute bursting. It's incredibly boring and they should absolutely not keep treading in this direction. Balance is the only real thing that's been alright, but we're at the point where having fun actually playing them is a sacrifice to have balance, and that isn't a good feeling at all. As long as every job within the role can go in and clear the content without needing near perfect execution outside of maybe ultimate, who cares? Let the sweaty parsers mald.

    2)Stormblood by a country mile. It had an incredible middle ground with room to learn and improve even for newer players. Damage was also more spread out. All it needed was some systemic refining (that being, TP being removed, no one misses TP. Tank stance really only needed its enmity generation buffed a bit). I was fine with damage type debuffs, honestly. It was just an archaic design system that was best removed moving forward.

    3)There's no reason why there shouldn't be official surveys. It is literally impossible to avoid people putting in feedback in bad faith. There should be more communication with us and the devs with the job design because right now responses feel tone-deaf. (Asking for feedback on Kaiten, then masses of people putting in said feedback only for there to be no official response, for instance).

    There is also no reason to hand out rewards for something as simple as answering a survey. I can't think of any good reasons to have it set up that way.

    Drk would love for it to have more dark magic and not feel like a WAR
    GNB not bad though the dmg buff duration could be better
    PLD sad they took the dot the rewoke is meh wish is had more depth but I can live with what it is
    WAR I need more buttons or dmg otherwise stop making 2 of the same button its kinda annoying

    DPS(Melee)
    Sam Needs a rework
    MNK need a animation rework and form shift needs to be off the global also take the gauge off of PB
    DRG eh I can't say much since I don't play enough but i feel its going in a good direction just needs some spice
    RPR wish they were faster or some of their basic abilities where off the global other then that is new so not much to say
    NIN either a rework or organize the dang jutsu better don't like the clipping is getting old

    DPS(RNG)
    MCH get rid of gunfu and bring more of the stuff they been putting out so far feels like a real MCH
    BRD needs something to stand out IDK but is hard to pick it over DNC (Maybe another RNG dps would help)

    DPS(Magic)
    BLM No comment
    SUM Basic
    RDM Eh solid

    Healer
    WHT please revert thin air
    AST alot to say and yet nothing at all. Its not bad but I still miss Older versions
    SCH Basic would love for them to do something more with your summon
    SGE love and hate it wish they put the mit on pneuma, wish this and that but just like AST its not bad

    Overall healer just feel the plainest to me followed by tanks then RNG

    Throw the 2min meta into the bin and light it on fire and reembrace irregular cooldown timers like with HW and Stormblood.

    PLD - Increase it's overall damage so it doesn't feel so weak.
    WAR - Remove Holmgang's bind effect and just make it a buff. With the way it currently works, if you're out of range (only 6y), Holmgang will just not work unless you deselect the boss (or make a macro, but it's stupid for that to be required). In addition, Holmgang's bind is already very niche. There is near zero downside to just removing the bind and having Holmgang work at any range, like the other invulns do.
    DRK - Make TBN not cost MP, and make Dark Mind function like Addle where it still gives a lot of magic mitigation but also a small amount of physical mitigation, making it less useless in fights that use a lot of physical attacks.
    GNB - Increase No Mercy's duration to 25s, and make it easier to use mitigations during your burst.

    Melee
    SAM - Find a way to remove the filler from the rotation.
    MNK - I barely play this job so no idea what to do
    DRG - Merge High Jump and Mirage Dive again.
    RPR - This is fine.
    NIN - Fix the mudra clipping, and make Hyoton have an actual use outside of Kassatsu. (no, a bind effect that most bosses are immune to is not an actual use)

    Ranged
    BRD - Bring back DoT based procs, and make the songs last 40s so you don't have to cut them short.
    MCH - This is fine as is.
    DNC - This is also fine as is.

    Caster
    BLM - I barely ever play this job
    SMN - This job's fine where it is.
    RDM - I wanna see more buff/support options. Make RDM feel more like a support caster than a caster with a few support options.

    Healer
    In General - They need more offensive options
    WHM - I'm fairly happy with this job rn.
    AST - Literally just revert AST's card and seal system to Shadowbringers AST and I'm happy. The EW rework kinda killed that system. While some people prefer HW or SB AST's cards, I think SHB was when the system was at its best. The removal of the two sects was an alright change though.
    SCH - No clue what to do.
    SGE - I wish there were more unique interactions with Kardia. Perhaps there could be a damage spell that applies a shield to the person with Kardia. As it is, it feels like a glorified Regen effect.

    In a lost post from a few months ago, I laid out how all the tanks are about the same. I provided an example of how if a player were to layout their hotbars for all 4 tanks in a certain way, they could do "tank roulette" and play any tank competently since the jobs are so alike. Sure, to get that last 5% maybe you need to be an expert. For the vast majority of the population, tanks are nearly the same except with a reskinned weapon.

    In many ways they are balanced, but in others... homogenous.

    This doesn't deter me from playing the game, but does make me a little less excited when they add a new job, such as GNB. Arrange the hotbar to be like the other 3 tanks, and you are golden.

    1. Really dislike it. A neat, near universal 2-min burst window may be easier to make content around but it'll also make gameplay dull in the long run. Heavy homogenization to counteract balance issues is like if you stop shooting yourself in the left foot to start shooting yourself in the right foot instead.

    2. I quite liked Stormblood's (I may be biased, since it's the one I started with). Didn't much care for TP by itself and I don't mind different debuff types being gone, but I liked that you had to have team synergy in mind and you also had to be more aware of your teammates (for stuff like MP/TP regen and such).

    3. Official surveys would be great to have, but without rewards. I feel that people who want to provide feedback, be it positive or negative, will fill a survey of their own volition whether they have an incentive to or not. Some people'll always give unhelpful answers for shits and giggles too, and tying a shiny to the surveys would 100% increase their number.
