Idk if I really see the activity of what are mostly buskers and club promoters as indicative of very much at all. They have to advertise so frequently and with such persistence because most players are indifferent, and the experiences from venue to venue are often virtually interchangeable. Their audiences are mostly regulars and one-off player-tourists who just wanna see what it's like after seeing it in /shout so often.

It has its niche, and it's not going anywhere, but I don't think social content like that and PvE/PvP content are mutually exclusive interests for many of the players in question. And the vocal minority of desperate advertisers doesn't count for much to begin with, imo. Being loud and visible is just what they do.
