Add Level Scaling so low level content does not feel like a penalty for higher level

Hi! Will try to be brief, its just a suggestion to add Level Scaling, for high level jobs who want to do roulettes and end up getting an 'old' low level instance (e.g. lv90 blm getting lv50 LoA alliance). Currently many of us just leave the instance, mostly because losing all our skills (past lv50 cap in LoA example) feels like a very tough penalization, way more harsh than enduring 30 min queueing penalization. See, the issue is not that the content is bad, on the contrary, its good content, but nowadays its too nerfed, almost as if unsynced, enemies melt, and then we lose all our skills we worked so hard to get, so we can not even have a consistent rotation we can practice as we lose our skills. I would kindly suggest a button, like FATES (and FATES also need this treatment), where people can choose to either SYNC DOWN (current system) or SCALE DOWN (new system), where we still have all our lv90 skills, but damage is significantly reduced to match the dungeon/raid/FATE level. It would be even simpler than manually tuning each job for each set of levels, as its just a simple multiplier modifier to damage calculations. Yes, it would need some fine tuning, but it would be way more sustainable and exponentially more enjoyable than the current SYNC down system. Thank you!

Hi! Welcome to the forums! We have this conversation about twice a year. It would not be a simple scaling multiplier. When you consider Potency, the fixed part of the damage calculation that does not change as you level, every job's potency per second increases greatly over the course of the leveling process. Action potency goes up whenever an action gets upgraded. Additional actions become available to weave into the rotation off the GCD. Additional more powerful actions replace older still-available GCD actions. You cannot just scale a Lv90 job down to Lv30. If you scaled them down so that their actions did the same damage as the actions of the Lv30 person, they would still do far more damage than the Lv30 person because they have more actions. If you scaled them down so that their overall DPS was the same as the Lv30 person, they would have to do far more work than the Lv30 person. Even if that were acceptable to some, the scaling modifier would not be linear. It would have to be a function of both the actual level and the sync level, which would require a 90x90 lookup table for each job. It's far simpler and most equitable just to keep the system as it is.

I feel the level 90 issue. Its always wierd not having all my skills anymore in lower dungeons but as someone who has a little bit of experience making games (not with mmos though) i dont think scaleing would be that simple especially from a coding perspective,(i dont personally know if its true but i hear from alot of the fanbase the games code is kind of spagetti) Rongway also explained alot of the gameplay flow design issues that would also pop up. That said it would be cool to have a like "unreal" esk version of raids or dungeons that scale with you. Maybe along with an unreal trial they could work in a one or two scaled up dungeons each expansion just for fun ^_^

I have come to agree with you on the difficulty of implementing such a modifier. However I strongly disagree with the "more work for same output" argument because that's precisely what is wanted, for the content to not be a snoozefest thanks to having access to the full kit.

So I'd gladly do the same output than the level 30 guy with his 3 skills because my reward is exactly that : doing my full rotation. Hell I'd even agree to do less damage than him if it meant having access to my full kit. I don't really care about DPS in low level stuff anyway so.

Currently, I hate to admit that I most reluctantly engage in below 90 content for the relic and that's it. And it's a chore when I have to do it.

imo they should redo how early you get your full skill set, by level 50 imo you should have your full skill set and just have upgrades and minor abilites for levels above 50.
