Show Me Your HUD UI Layouts

Hi!

I'm one of those players who set up their action bars 1 thru = with Shift, Alt, and Ctrl for a total 36 abilities. I want to do better and keybind my action bars in a less awkward way.

Please share how you have your action bars keybound and your HUD set laid out for the game. I'd really appreciate it!

I still use almost the same UI and HUD layout I have had for years.




My keybinds are 1-5 and ~, ctrl 1-5 and ~, alt 1-5 and ~ ctrl+alt 1-5 and ~, ctrl shift 1-5 and ~, and alt+shift 1-5 and ~. Modifiers are on my mouse side buttons.

This is the layout I use (I'm left handed). I have a Razer Naga mouse and the combat toolbars (1 and 2) mirror the layout of the 12 buttons on the side. Bars 3 and 6 are where I put all my cooldowns, potions and markers; these are mapped to keys on the keyboard. The rest are all non combat, frequently used stuff. I use the Ins/Home/PageUp/Del/End/PageDown for mapping most of the cooldowns and frequently used stuff like mounts and F9 to F12 for other stuff. In other games I also use the number pad as being left handed, these keys are easy for me to reach and identify without looking at them

My hands won't do Shift, Alt, Ctrl well at all so I have my single target rotation on bar 1 and my AoE rotation on bar 2 and then I have a /hotbar change X that will make my active 1 to = bar whichever I'm doing at the time. I have another bar for less used abilities that I can click with the mouse but the same concept could work for a third utility bar.

On DDs and tanks I play keyboard only.


On healers I use middle, nav forward, and nav back mouse buttons for mouseover heals, and make sure Sprint and Surecast are bound to mouse buttons as well.


More detailed keybinds:

You definitely should not use all twelve keys from [1] to [=] if you don't have both hands on the keyboard. This is because of Fitts's Law, which states that the difficulty of pressing a button increases the farther you have to move to press the button. If you only have one hand on the keyboard, you have to move your hand an obscene distance to be able to reach the other end of the number row which will make accurately pressing those buttons difficult, and then you have to move an obscene distance back to your resting position which will then make pressing should-be-easy buttons difficult while you reposition.

If you play with left hand on keyboard and right hand on mouse, you should limit your controls to this green section of the keyboard, though you might need to extend into the yellow section on some jobs:

This minimizes left hand movement, which will increase input speed and accuracy.

I use 1-5 (I don't have anything set to 5 though), Q, E, R, T, F, G, V, `, Mouse 4, Mouse 5, L, and Numpad +
F is always sprint
G is always knockback resist
L is always Limit Break
+ is my shield as BLM/NIN/RPR, mitigation as SAM/MNK, stance as tank, DP as Dancer, Faerie as Scholar and Kardia as Sage
1-5, Q-V all have Shift and Alt modifiers, but I have a 6th button on my mouse bound to Alt so I use that instead of pressing it normally
