Will we ever get new Onion Knight themed sets?

Askin for obvious name related reasons, the new deep dungeon got me thinking about this set again.

I know the reason we've endeavored to not reuse the original Onion Helm is cause of it's status as a 1.0 item, and I know we have the red Onion Helm variant in the game- Buuuut

It's a bit weird that such an iconic piece of gear has never had like a second gearset themed after it. We've redone loads of other iconic gear pieces, though I guess they've all been class related... But there's still only one Onion Helm model that comes in two flavors, one of which is totally unavailable through official means anymore, and neither are dyeable.

I just think it'd be a cool aesthetic to try for a Dungeon or something. Plumed round helms for every class with a slightly armoured aesthetic, match that 'it's the generic class' vibe. And if not that... Could we just get a craftable version of the helm that's dyeable? Just change up the model so the old ones still keep their exclusivity

I do own the 1.0 Onion Helm and I would be ok with it coming back to the game.

I own the red one, and am like "Why is this item that is iconic for being able to use all weapons... Locked to tanks? Why is this item that is a franchise callback item... Not dyeable?"

Because like the actual Onion Helm, the Red Onion Helm is old 1.0 gear (there was also a black version called the Peregrine Helm, but that hasn't returned in ARR), and dyeing gear didn't exist back then.

It's a pretty messed up set.
Everything but the helm is like a one in a million shot from quick ventures so even if you have the helmet... Good luck

I guess it makes it a bit extra special though, which is nice for games to have.
If you see a full on onion knight running around, you know they earned it

So I often see people praising onion knight as a job and wishing for it to be playable in 14 and various other job-centered FF titles, but... I don't get it? What even is onion knight's theme? What is its draw? What kind of job is it even supposed to be? A knight? That already exists. Does it use magic? Does it do anything special? I legitimately have no idea.

    What's the draw?

Onion Knight was just the default/starter job in the original version of FFIII and the pixel remasters too. I believe it was renamed to 'Freelancer' in the 3d remakes. As far as I remember from my time in the pixel remaster it didnt have anything special to it, though the final dungeon had a set of 'Onion Knight' armor that dropped rarely from the more powerful monsters there, that made the job more viable lategame.

The draw is largely nostalgia for the classic aesthetic, it's the base job in 3- And in the 3 re-releases and tactics it holds hidden mechanics that make it a fun jack of all trades. The series calls back to it fairly often as an item, it was even one of the ultimate weapons in X

It's not very special really. It's just the other classic FF aesthetics are well represented so there's no need to ask for them (e.g. White Mages robes being white with red cutouts, Summoners having horns, dragoons having dragon helms etc.).

But to be clear I dont want it as a job, just gear sets that call back to that classic aesthetic.

Its just an amusing "default" job the characters in FFIII start off with because according to the devs "they have layers to peel off". But it wasnt meant to be more than just that once you get your first set of jobs. Its also famous because Onion Knights have a secret where if you level up your character to lv.99 they get actually get insane stat gains to the point of outclassing every other job. Also the final dungeon there are enemies that can drop the fabled onion equipment which further boosts their strengths.
