Before Meteor - Spinoff Game Idea

Very often I find myself wishing there was some way to experience the 1.0 story in a way that wasn't just YouTube videos.

I made this mockup image years ago but never posted it anywhere. Given how popular Triangle Strategy, Bravely Default and Osteopath Traveler are, would it be really that crazy to think about making a simpler trun-based spin-off game by a smaller team that covers the events of the 1.0 plot? Obviously it wouldn't be for 3DS anymore, but you get the idea:

Probably unnecessary, and probably won't happen, but I know I'd probably buy it in a heartbeat.
    Would you?

Trust me, as a 1.0 player, there actually wasn't much there to remake (hence why ARR completely replaced it). And most of the story was cannibialized for ideas for ARR so you'd just be going over many of the exact same story beats as ARR's story did. And what ARR did not cover has mostly been decanonized or retconned out anyway, if not outright discarded, so is no longer even relevant, making even less ideas to draw from to make a hypothetical 'prequel' game.

With EW concluding the original story begun with 1.0/ARR, I don't see SE going back to the game's sordid roots anymore - I mean, they barely even recognize 1.0's existence now, so alas, I'm pretty confident 1.0 will only live on in cutscenes on Youtube, and the occassional cutscene recreation in ARR, usually shown through the Echo, as has been happening a lot lately (such as Raubahn's famous high-stakes Colleseum battle).

But the question is still asked: "would I play a single-player remake if it was done?" Tentatively, the answer would be... "yes, but.." There would inevitably be changes that would have to be made as simple pragmatism, a MMO and a single player game have completely different design paradigms, and with 1.0 at the time of it's shutdown being as complete as a child's jigsaw puzzle it wouldn't be a 'remake' and more just 'a prequel to ARR inspired by 1.0', so it wouldn't be the same thing.

    SWITCH VERSION OR RIOT!

That said, I would love if SE did this. However the odds are so slim your mock up makes me depressed that we will never get something that awesome, lol. I know Maplestory had a 3ds single player version and I loved the heck out of it, I'm sure if there was a single player offline XIV I can just pick up and put down whenever, I would pay the full price. I'll even pay the new 70$ standard!

    I would love a spin-off game.

Speaking of spin-offs, can we safely assume that the XIV Netflix series is dead in the water? I don't think we've heard anything regarding it for atleast 3 years.

Guildwars 1 had a pretty neat idea that would work for this.

Essentially, you bought a DLC that gave you access to several books with chapters. You could play in any order.

When you opened a “chapter” you would play some certain specific bits of the story contained, as the main character of that story. Rather than 1 long story, each book felt like slices of the main plot with text explaining what connects each chapter.

In FFXIV terms, this would be like the MSQ where you play as other NPCs, but would do several bite sized quests/a dungeon for each chapter that told some overarching story. I imagine it would essentially play out as the opening quests from 1.0, but as scions leading up to the meteor fall.

The good, is it’s easy to skip around and use cutscenes to explain what happened between the “fun bits”, the bad is not using your own character.

TL;DR, could just make a flashback series that cuts all busywork and just has the exciting/good bits with cutscenes for everything else.

I'd definitely be for this, there's something incomplete feeling about not having met Louisoix or having never fought Nael while they were still a Garlean.

The problem like Enkidoh pointed out is there's currently not enough there. It'd have to be a Crisis Core type situation where they'd have to expand with new story to round it all off in a satisfying way. I'd definitely buy it though

I wouldn't be opposed, but I think I'd be more concerned about them turning it into some weird NFT venture at this point.
