Why do people avoid getting better at the game?

No it's not. That is misinformation spread by people who don't read the ToS (or taking it way out of context).

We should be able to roast people who are bad at the game. Maybe if they weren't standing around a city for hours on end or RP some BS and actually put some practice in they get better. Instead they rather be incompetent and not put any work in and be carried. People need that harsh criticism in life builds character

No matter how you phrase "advice," even should it be worded as a kindly-written request, someone will find some way to take it as condescension or "telling them how to play the game." In turn, SE will look into any resultant report(s) and may or may not take action. The GM looking into it determines whether there was any wrongdoing. Will most of them decide to throw a hammer because of a nicely-worded request? Nah, but some of'em will.

I'm still calling it misinformation though, because I give advice/suggestions like they're milkshakes going cheap and have yet, in the 10 years I've been playing this game, to be thrown into Gaol.

People would get better at the game (or quit queuing for randoms) if we were allowed to roast them for being bad.

This is not how people work, and griefing them out of roulettes is not the win that you think it is.

People really aren't incentivized to get better. Playing through Criterion Dungeons and Deep Dungeons makes you actually have to pay attention and improve on what your failing at. Especially DD. For the first time, I'm trying to solo the latest one and I'm really enjoying myself! Could be less instant kill mechanics all over it, but otherwise I'm having a fun time.

It all comes down to how you play. I don't have time to savage raid or even learn extremes so I don't. Once the content can't be easily queable its dead to me. It's as simple as that.

Wall2Wall is standard cause there is no difficulty, and instead of upping the difficulty they just made "wall2wall" the core of dungeons. YOu dont design a game around min maxed stuff. Might as well remove dungeons and just clicking them on the duty finder instantly grants you the rewards if they wanna design the game around "wanna get it done in 15minutes so im back to afking in limsa" crowd

You can easily make two packs of mobs harder so you can't wall to wall. Add silences or whatever. Maybe more incoming damage
Honestly as a casual player the hyper linear nature of wall to wall is absolutely boring and it's why I only want to do dungeons once. Obviously because of roulettes we can't, but the design is so crap it makes me feel that way. Also there is no need to get better. Sure Savage gear looks cooler, but if I wait long enough I can casually do it with my FC. Gearing in general is relatively pointless as eventually a new expansion comes out and invalidates all my gear progression anyway.

Exactly, I joined a roulette party in progress where the healer had been kicked and I didn't have time to use esauna and a dps died. He got all upset and ask why didn't I use esauna on him and I told him to leave me alone I know what I'm doing. From then on the roulette was quick and fast as I used all my abilities in perfect fashion and got two commendation guess who didn't give me one .....yes (jack azz didn't)

Well here is like Haseo told Atoli in .hack GU I don't have time to look at the pretty things in a game I am here to get better and stronger. People who afk in Limsa or any other city just to sit there and BS all day should go play another game catered to them. I don't have time to carry a incompetent player who can't carry their weight in a fight to wipe everyone and not only waste my time but other's players time because you refuse to get better. If you have time to gossip and talk in a city you got time to get better. If I notice you mess up mechanics not once twice but multiple of times and been told how it happens and still refuse then you don't deserve to play. This isn't the game for you. Find something better that is suited for your skill level.
