Why do people avoid getting better at the game?

The answer is simple. There is no reason to get better at the game.

XIV offers such a casual experience that the player base has never had a reason to actually get better at game mechanics outside of those who wish to participate in Extreme/Savage/Ultimate content.

The player base get babysat through the entire game, even get difficulty DROPS in MSQ instances because.. it is too hard?

There is no reason to babysit people. People adapt and become better players by being challenged, even if it is only a small challenge.

There will always be that crowd that shouts for nerfs to content because they don't want to actually have to learn to play the game, Those players will complain about everything that makes them have to actually think while playing.

Content does not have to be 'Extreme/Savage' level of difficulty to be challenging. The final duty in 6.0 was a good example of this. It was not hard, but it DID challenge people and they learned from their mistakes and eventually cleared it.

    What could change?
What incentives would be required to get people to try out new content?

    Who knows, Discuss below.

I feel like we're at a point where Yoshi needs to legitimately just consider a 'Story Mode', where they're not forced to do Dungeons, Trials, Duties. The game is just getting worse because we're sacrificing engaging challenges for the lowest common denominator.

Maybe let them do the combat content without rewards, and give them an action button or something that kills shit quickly.

I don't mind if they have some kinda mode that lets them just enjoy the story, why would I care? I just wanna play a fun game, so if they wanna play a Visual Novel, then so be it. But don't rework the whole damn game because of it.

it creates a divide in the community between good players and bad players, giving good players a reason to be elitist, and therefore creating a toxic enviroment

considering this is the most recent in the continuing series of how bad all other players are, I suspect the OP avoids that to keep the "ooh and ahhs" and thunderous applause in check.

Not to mention the possibility of the dev team needing to account for the lowest common denominator of player skill, and therefore needing to basically strip jobs of the mechanics and decision-making that some players desire in order to accommodate. But that's something of a subjective issue, these days.

Well If there is something I'm not seeing in the game from where i am, I'm not that far yet so can't speak much. There doesn't seem much there that is hard enough to push you into getting better, so far each dungeon seems easier than the last one. (i've only done up to stone so far so this could change) Game seems to be missing a learning curve (could be wrong again) that may change as i get in later but as of now not so much.

If there isn't anything to push you to the next level, a learning curve so to speak I doubt people will do as you say get better op.

Im assuming extreme/ and all that is the basic of wows myth plus stuff and when you don't have a prebuilt reason to push to get better to dominate a said content, as you progress building your character and yourself up in process that type stuff will be like a shot out of no where of a jump.

I do most of the hard content in this game and I tend to scale above average in savage at my best. I used to be in the top 20%, sometimes top 5-10 depending on fight but I haven't done as well in recent tiers.

    That said,

Some people simply don't have the capability of getting better than where they currently are.

I'm atrocious at fighting games, no matter how many guides and videos I look up. I suck at fps games, despite understanding how the mechanics in them work.

Not everyone can be good at a specific thing. Doesn't mean they can't still get some enjoyment out of it.

Almost as if once you mastered both your class and the encounter the content that run over and over again becomes trivially easy. Just like with everything in real life.

People like to point of Ivalice or Dun Scaith for being good examples for mid-core content and while TRUE....As somebody whom ran those raids multiple times for glams, I'm going to straight up tell you, those raids are piss easy for me. Learning mechanics isnt hard when you repeat them over and over again when you memorize them. Even back when Dun Scaith gets circulated into Moogle Treasure Trove so people run those frequently, the fact that during that period where we have players freshen up on the mechs, the raid itself becomes trivial because everyone knows it.

I personally see the difficulty fine as it is. We have the Savages and EXs for people whom want that extra bit of challenge and we have the regular dungeon, trial content for the rest of the playerbase whom lets face it, is an MMO thats catered to the very casual audience. If people avoid wanting to be challenged or get better thats THEIR issue. No need to force it on to the entire playerbase.
