yeah, pretty much. casuals cried and screamed their head off about eureka. they didn't want to actually do the content there since it was actually a significant time investment. then they decided to make bozja which was eureka-lite without the major time investment. sure, you still had to put in the time to rank up and do the quests but it was childs play compared to eureka. people cried even more that they had to do the content, do what amounted to 3 extra alliance raids (granted putting castrum on a timer was a pretty boneheaded move so you'd have people queued up to do a big boss fate leave so they could do castrum), but delubrum was actually well executed because you could group up and queue whenever you wanted. they even added an extra optional difficulty level for people who enjoyed doing baldesion arsenal in eureka. then they dropped the ball again with dalriada being on a timer, but overall it wasn't that bad. people don't like putting in the effort, they just want the reward so they can go back to afking in limsa

Not really? Since first off, duels occur when players happen to perform expertly on the engagement and when it pops up people need to accept it to continue. Also the fact that duels are very hard if you're not prepared culls out the people whom would want to engage in them anyway. I thought people here wanted more meaningful and engaging content that gave you the feeling of contributing to the world? Finishing a duel gives nearby players a bonus buff to mettle and gives that player who completed the satisfaction of contribution. I thought this is what people would like to see more of in this game, but I GUESS I JUST DONT...KNOW

I suppose it does suck that some field notes are locked behind them I think? But I have yet to encounter people malding over not being able to participate in a duel.

Duels are a cool idea, but it's not executed particularly well imho. Regardless of whether you've seen someone be mad about not getting to participate, the fact that it's only ever one person who gets to participate creates an unnecessary social pressure that does make people who would otherwise enjoy them back out instead. I know it did discourage me. Because if I fail, it feels like I deprived someone else of the place where they could've done better. ...I also didn't feel like farming the actions, but that's a whole another topic

WoW had a similar concept in the Brawler's Guild - you had one on one fight with a boss, and had other people watching on. The crucial difference was, that everyone there has their own progress through the guild, and the only thing you need to do, is to queue up. If you fail there, it's not a big deal, because everyone gets their turn in the ring and their chance to progress. Plus no exclusive action prerequisites.

I suppose yeah but from my experience Ive never seen people act vitriolic over the loser of the duel rather they were more sympathetic and commended them for trying their best, since lord knows they could'nt have done it any better. This scenario that you made isnt that often found in this game. I still think its a neat idea since its a super rare thing in this game where you get those players whom can make a name for themselves. And in the MMO space that means a lot

I have, but only at launch. When someone failed a duel, even though it was clear that they tried, people would start /yelling really nasty crap at them.

It stopped soon after, though. But some did it because there was no buff from the win. Others did it because they felt cheated out of the duel.

Edit: By "it stopped soon after", I mean like two\three weeks in. And it certainly wasn't every instance I went into. But it did happen. And I remember it happened because I wasn't aware of the buff, and I even specifically asked my FC at the time why that was going on. And that's when they said "Because if you win you give people who were watching a buff. So some people probably knew how to beat the boss, didn't go in, and feel like they were robbed".

Duels would have been a lot better with even just a way to guarantee you get into a duel finally. Imo, they should have had at least three CE spots for duels to have more duels going at once. I understand that'd be immersion breaking, but there definitely should have at least been a slot for people forcing the duel to happen. Like, qualify for the duel a few times = you get to force your way in.

They kind of got half way through in Zadnor with the whole duel credit thing they did. But there was nothing to stop someone with equal or more credit from showing up and negating your credit. And with the way the duels would only happen after the entire CE chain leading up to them... Rather an annoying set of achievements to even attempt.

What they should have done with the duel is give people a chance to practice. A content that require utmost level of skill and understanding to success with effectively zero chance of practicing. Like ... imagine Ultimate that will limit you just one lockout a week ...

I personally don't care about what other people will say when I fail, and if anyone being a **** I can shrug them off easily enough ... but I also chose not to participate in it because there are too little opportunity. I consider it's a scarcity resource, so better let the people who know what they're doing so all (including myself) can benefit from it.

Just to be clear there are no field notes locked exclusively behind duels. Some may be easier to get from the duels then fighting the RNG from bosses in CCL, DR, and Dalriada. I have Al-Ilkli and never did a single duel in my life, Lyon though really refused to drop his second set of notes for me though for a long time from Dalriada.

Ah ok, glad to actually know that. Gives me less of a reason to go for duels then whenever I plan around on getting that Bozjan mount.
