I see your point and agree with your sentiment but I don't think this would fix the problem. People who want to sell the item will just refrain from using it themselves at all or at least until the content becomes irrelevant or the item becomes worthless. I know you addressed this, but I disagree with you that the number of people doing this would be minimal.
