I am a bit intrigued by the idea of 'taking a break'.

Because is a month's worth of subscription really worth the few hours of content dropped by the most recent patch?

Or does he mean wait for - insert random number here - patches to drop and then make your return so it's worth the money spent?

No idea. I subscribe for 6 months at a time.

If I want a break, I do something else:

Watch C-Dramas (50 of those 40 minutes episodes takes a big chunk of time).
Listen to K-Pop (and classical, and American pop, and New Wave and ...).
Read books (Danmei, Manga, Light Novels, fan-fiction of those 50 episode C-Dramas).
Watch The Eminence in Shadow. (Japanese and English dubs).
Play table top RPG games (mostly D&D, Pathfinder).
Play other MMORPGs and other video games.

and then I go back and play more FFXIV. The game is not My Life.

The $15 per month is not financially difficult, although I suspect it might be so for some.

I'd like to ask how what you do outside of the game is relevant to my inquiry?

Also the justification that patches should be disappointingly miniscule will only encourage the developers to continue doing so.

With the Content we got since 6.0 till 6.35 and the MSQ Story ... damn I can't even remember the Story. Was there even a Story?
I remember only:

The Story after Endwalker was so boring that I can't even remember all of it. There was no Highlight, no WoW effect.

I am not sure that SE will release next year a new Expansion, more like in 2 years and how will this Game survive with this less content?

Hate to agree, Once you get all caught up you're SoL unless you wanna grind achievements that don't even give Titles or Goodies. If this is update rate they intend on going at for next year / 2 years this game is gunna flop.

Been seeing this doom and gloom for several Expansions.....Im waiting for the day it actually happens.
I dont want it to fail, Im actually still loving the game, but dam Id be lying if I wasn't Anticipating: "Will this be the Expansion they are finally right?"

My friends and I use to have discussions for hours talking about new plot developments and lore pre-Endwalkers.

Now we're getting closer to 6.5 and we haven't spoken a word to each other about the story.

After NA Fanfest (assuming that they're going to announce the next expac there) all there cards should be on the table. Right now just feels like the prologue to Kingdom Hearts 2.
