My character is gone, makes me start new game

Just went to login today and my character isn't at the home screen, the game is defaulting to me starting a "new game". When I logged out last night, I was on a data center that was not my home data center, (unsure if that has anything to do with it).
It's strange because "Soleil" still exists on lodestone; even in game things I have placed on the market board are still for sale (I had a friend check) - so that tells me she still exists, she's just lost I guess.
Has this happened to anyone else before? I've tried selecting different data centers, and uninstalling & reinstalling the game as well but no luck.

Unfortunately yes, I've even tried switching data centers but nothing, its forcing me to create a new game. I can even login to my character on the companion app, edit the marketboard, etc. It's legit just the client that isn't loading up my character at all. On the companion app it says my character is on Primal but the client isn't even showing I have a character at all

Datacenter is one thing, server another. The client does not always default to the right server even if you are on the right datacenter.

If you were visiting another datacenter, your character would likely show up on the world in that datacenter you were last on.

So, just to double-check:
Which world and datacenter should your character be on?
Are you looking at that world at the character selection screen?

As for a character selection screen, it doesn't prompt one. The home screen just says "Start, Data Center, Configurations, Exit". When I hit start, it makes me select a data center and starts up the opening cutscene for starting ARR

Hmm. I see.
Have you tried creating another character? Perhaps then you will at least get to the character selection screen and see if you can find your main character. I don't know, it is just an idea.

Look to the left from "New Character" button.
There is a "World" button, thats what you want.

Just so you know characters don't just vanish. To delete one you get multiple confirmation buttons and for one you actually have to wait 30 seconds before you can press it. You can login with your account in Lodestone

Go to characters to see your home server.

Did it work? Is your character listed in the lodestone?

If none of your characters are visible, maybe there was a problem with your sub payment?

Don't worry, OP himself confirmed that he was just on another world after switching DC. FFXIV client does that all the time.

He just had a bit of trouble figuring out how to change worlds.

Once again:
After you press "Start" from the main menu you get a character selection screen. Look to the left from "New Character" button.
There is a "World" button, thats what you want. Press it and chose your home world (Brynhildr, as I assume)
