I like it cause i can do whatever i want to grind it out. Even PVP.

Except it doesn't sound like a thankfully for you, it sounds like a burden tying you to something that otherwise makes you miserable.
You're starting to get the idea. Games and content within them are simply different flavors. The arguments in favor of this using 'flavor' as a reason are some of the worst arguments I have ever seen.
If the lack of specific tasks vs tomes is just "flavor", then you can apply that logic to every other content in the game. Jobs, dungeons, gear, FATEs, bosses, enemies, sidequests. Let's reduce everything to what objectively sets them apart... which is not much. I'm sure that wouldn't make the experience more shallow at all!
It's not that different than those who like vanilla ice cream and so pick vanilla while others like chocolate ice cream so they pick chocolate.
In the end, we're playing games to have fun. The pixel rewards earned with them don't mean that much in the end because we can't take those pixel rewards and turn them into useful things for real life. The enjoyment and stress relief we get from playing - there's the real reward.

Man, I was here for the Atma grind as it released. I remember people bitching about the crafting step in the Anima weapon and having a repeat of another light farm. I still have fond memories of people declaring Eureka a failure and Pagos "dead content" because it was too difficult and the grind too arduous. And just last expansion, everyone losing their minds about needing to do CLL once to progress their relic.
In the wake of all this backlash over the years, an easy tomestone step was inevitable. I don't mind it in the least because of all I've been through already with relic weapons, and there are both other things I can do in game to occupy my time when I feel like playing, or a host of other things I can do outside the game without feeling a gnawing sense of dread that I'm not in some massive FATE train or grinding out the same dungeon or alliance raid with the rest of the gremlins.
I want to relax when I play, and eventually get what I'm after, not clench my way to the immediacy of acquisition as though that's elevating me above other people. It's absolutely insane to me that a tomestone step is generating this much furor when something simple like this would've been met with a profound, collective sigh of relief vs. chasing 2% drop rates on a bevy of tokens.
Given what other thing you have been typing, this sounds more like a curse to me tbh, not sure what fortunate about that. This is why I said earlier if FFXIV were a person instead of a game, some relationship on display here would straight up mirror a domestic abusive one. Two people who can no longer be happy around each others but still can't break up because some physical/materialistic binding, so the only thing they can do is abuse each others every day.
It's basically WoW at this point. The illusion will shatter once FF14 has its own Shadowlands...
>Implying Mahatma & Light grind from ARR relic aren't blatant copies of each other, which is then blatantly copied again during the HW relic
>Implying at least 5 different steps (likely more, memory a bit foggy) across the various relics aren't just blatantly carbon-copied 'Farm -x- fates in -y- region for -z- drop at some unspecified %drop rate'.
>Implying every step of the Eureka relic sans the final ones aren't just blatantly copying each other (kill zone boss to get special upgrade material, farm x amount of NM crystals)
While this step was lackluster in terms of giving something for people to do, let's take off the rose-tinted glasses and look at the objective truth that Square's relic design has been massively full of copy-paste. People have been complaining for a while now that its difficult to gear & spec into multiple jobs, so they decided to rectify that by making the current two steps be easy and very wide open to multi-relic, they see no need to dress up the step in some illusion that ultimately comes down to 'do this exact same task you've already done before but -x- more times'
Besides, with a relic design like this, there's nothing stopping people from making the quest whatever they want to be. Wanted it to force you to run Puppet's Bunker 15x? Then go run it 15x before buying the relic. Wanted it to force you to do variant dungeons till your eyes bled? Go spend all your tomestones so you start at 0, then go grind Variant till you have 1500. For anyone who was hoping the relic quest would be a grind, there's nothing stopping you from making it as grindy as you want - the only thing missing is Square Enix's authoritative voice telling you exactly how to do it with no fun allowed to alternatives otherwise. There's nothing limiting you besides your imagination! : )
This got such a good laugh from me.

This, honestly. I don't have any problems with the grind being easier but making the second step the same as the first one is kinda lame.I think everyone is missing the point. Many are not upset over the fact it's an easy step, they are mad because of how lazy it was implemented. They didn't even bother to add a new token for the 1500 whatever points, it was super lazy and if anything I feel bad for the poor animators who had to carry the bulk of the 6.35 update.
Only cause it's noticably the same, I'd say.
If the first step were "do 15 ARaids" and the second step were "do 30 lvl70 dungeons" I bet people would feel better about it, even if strictly speaking it's a worse, more restrictive grind.
