Eureka Orthos Issues (For a Solo Player)

Hello everyone. Patch 6.35 gave us a great addition: the new Deep Dungeon, Eureka Orthos. I cleared both PotD and HoH solo and really enjoy this type content. EO is mean and quite different from previous DDs, and I love it. But I have three issues with it.

The first issue: it feels like mobs on floors 1-20 have too much HP. Maybe it has to do with how hard the Aetherpool gear gets scaled down for these sets, maybe it has to do with HP values. During solo run as a tank you want to get all the chests, but it takes so long to AOE the mobs you've pulled, so it can take up to 40 minutes with active decision making (aka pomander usage) and planned routing. On AST set 1-10 takes 50 minutes. Even for DPS these floors can feel like a slog. Time gets too volatile depending on what pomanders you get.

The second issue: respawn timer is 1 minute, and that's too short. Because of how long it takes to kill mobs, the new wave gets to respawn. So, it stems from the first issue.

As I see it, HP values have to be scaled down (I'm not sure by how many %) or respawn timer changed to 2 minutes, just one of the two. Personally, I'd prefer the first one, but it's just my desire to spend less time on these floors speaking. I've got used to fast PotD and HoH early floors. I've seen some really good players asking for HP nerf of floors 1-40, even.

The third issue: potsherds shouldn't be tied to Sustaining Potions. You can see that the first EO clears were done on tanks. Why? Not because they are better that DPS jobs, but because they don't need these pots. Mobs don't crit, and all the mitigation and sustain the tanks have negates the damage. Personally, that doesn't affect me, because I enjoy playing as a tank. But people are gated from going into late floors because they don't have pots that they have to farm. And you have 2 options: spam 21-30 set or go as a tank and get to 81+, where potsherds are common. Fun fact: one of the early clears happened on a tank, because the player (Finh Bezahl from Jenova) didn't have the pots for his ninja run. So, he went as PLD and got the clear.

Please, just let us buy Sustaining Potions for Gil like Eurekan potions or change the potsherd drop rate on early floors. It's not like potsherd rewards are really good in the first place, ease the grind.

Overall, I'm happy with EO, but these issues ruin the fun for me a little and other solo runners, and I hope that something will change (before the next expansion drops and numbers become overtuned once again). What is your experience with early floors as a party or solo? Do you agree or disagree? I'd be glad to hear from you.

I tend to agree, while it's been a long time I went without full AP in potd/hoh, but I don't recall the mobs ever being so tedious/slow to dispatch solo (until you get somewhere like fl 60-70 in HOH or 150+ in potd).

I don't mind the sustaining potions that much, you end up doing it so many times when practicing you end up with plenty.

I totally agree, this is insane.
For a healer class EO is impossible to play solo, mobs takes too long to kill, and there's lot of rooms with 5-6 mobs. In a dozen try, with a lot of luck I get to the 9th floor, avoiding much mobs as possible and not getting all chest.
And even if I get to the boss, I think my lvl and AE would have been too low

HP wise it feels different because it is current content
when HoH and Potd were first out they all felt the same but now with stealth content nerf evey expansion Potd and HoH lower floors are paper thin

but yes the ability to buy potions normally would be nice

Most of those issues are only in the first few sets I am not sure why we went from a working formula of high auto attack damage on monsters to basically most enemies doing barely any damage with auto attacks while the enemies just sit there casting various shapes of orange instant kill markers. Once you know the casts for all the enemies it feels like all the danger disappears and I don't think I have cared about most of the negative debuffs at all unlike somewhere like PotD where Gloom/no items can be run ending on the spot.

I have started solo on a tank in HoH and PotD with 0 aetherpool on alts and cleared 1-20 while getting chests without any problems and plenty of time left. I tried the same in EO and oh the adds were bullet sponges. I too was barely taking any damage. Not fun. I can’t imagine doing this on healer. Even with higher aetherpool (I am nowhere maxed) they take too long to kill when soloing.

The first 40 levels need adjustment in terms of HP.

Wish Aetherpool wouldn't synch down, probably would steamroll the first few sets but whatever, makes it a far more desireable thing that it doesn't feel like a slog from the very beginning

I think Sig Nine said it best.. EO ripped the heart out of what made deep dungeons deep dungeons. I.E, intelligent decision making of pomander usage to mitigate the effects of RNG and wise target selection decision making. Skilled solo players had to make intelligent decisions that made each run different.

Instead, EO feels like a raid in DD clothing. Yes, it’s totally different, and yes, it’s fun to clear… ONCE. I think history will say this was a failed experiment though from the evergreen content perspective.

HoH and Potd are so "easy" due to power scaling. Some jobs are simply busted strong on level 60/70.
Give it a expansion or two and EO will feel as fast as the other two.

And as far as I know, the deep dungeon are made and balanced for 4 player.
Soloing them is optional content with no guarantee to be fully cleared with all jobs.

Potsherds only come from bronze chests and bosses. If they drop on low levels, it's an obscenely low drop rate. Low levels like to throw Pheonix Downs at you. Once you start getting higher, Potsherds drop like candy.
