Content you need to unlock is marked with a blue quest marker. Do every blue quest marker you see and you'll have everything unlocked. Problem solved.
My complaint is not only that FFXIV don't tell me what I need to do in order to unlock things. Not only that, but also that everything you did not unlock yet is HIDED in the Duty Finder... But you're right, this is just not a game for me. I really dislike the idea that I need either to do all blue quests, or that I need to search online to know what things I did not unlock yet. That is a big deal to me and I just unsub due to that. The only dog pound on him is this attitude. When somebody responds to him and he said "oh so it's getting expects you to know things and as a new player I should just leave" your attitude is that negative already maybe this isn't the game for you. But every MMO I have played from WoW, BDO, Rift, Tera and this one had part it didn't explain well at all and you had to figure out /google. Could they have done better yes but to get an attitude about it rubs me the wrong way.
In one thing you're wrong, tho. In the WoW equivalent of “duty finder” the content you did not unlock is not hided. Blizz actually shows what content they have (horror!) and provided in game tools for you to know what you need to do to unlock it. My grip with FFXIV is not only that it does not guide you to the quests you need to unlock things, but also that the content are HIDED in the Duty Finder...
As a new player who tried to enjoy the game, here's my feedback for what it is worth:
Even if Square don't want to tell people what is needed to do to unlock content in game, HIDING these things in the Duty Finder is, IN MY OPINION, a disturbing bad game design choice. People will not even know what they don't have unless they either do everything or search online.
Anyway, wish a good game for the people who enjoy it. I will play a bit with friends till the rest of my sub is gone, and move on, exactly as you suggest.

Certainly if the game is not what you're looking for, then it makes sense to find something else to play.My complaint is not only that FFXIV don't tell me what I need to do in order to unlock things. Most MMOs don't go out of their way to point out all content to their players, though. Some players enjoy figuring things out on their own and so features and content will many times remain "unannounced". Being a social multi-player game genre, those who don't like figuring things out can get the information by talking with their friends and other players.
I have to wonder why your friends, who presumably would know the type of person you are and how you prefer to get game information, didn't bother to volunteer information about the different content and unlock requirements in advance. As others have said earlier in the thread, SE has a formula they tend to follow closely when it comes to when certain types of content are added and the requirements for unlocking it. Certainly I've done similar for friends when I know what they like to figure out for themselves and when they prefer to be told.
Regardless, I hope you find another game to enjoy that will be designed more like what you want.
Let's be honest here, you and others are not “figuring out” anything, you're just alt tabbing the game and searching on google "how to" and "where it is". This is not "figuring out"...Certainly if the game is not what you're looking for, then it makes sense to find something else to play.

You're trying to portray me as someone who is “lazy” and don't want to “look around” as a way to invalidate my complaint, very toxic behavior since you don't even reply to my main points.
Actually, thinking about it, what you're saying is just a big lie. When a game is design for people to "figure it out" something like a quest, the game will HINT things so players have some ground to go. Like the old WoW quests where it reads like "go north of the city, look where the tree has no leaves" and stuff like that. FFXIV totally HIDES the unlocked content, meaning players needs to either BREAK IMMERSION and alt tab to look at google or do every blue quest just to know something exist. And also FFXIV quests literally point out the precise location you need to go, there is no "figuring out" at all in FFXIV, just stop it already LOL.
They said to me this community is very friendly, but all I see here is passive aggression, mockery in disguise as tips and a community that can't handle criticism. Well internet and their HOAX, I wonder if FFXIV numbers are also HOAX now...

Odd. I have never needed Google to find out what I can do in the game. When new quests become available they are almost always on the same map as you are when you unlocked it, and thus easily found. Is how much I have to use Google to know what I have not unlocked yet, and how the game do not present itself properly in my opinion.
It does not sound like a good idea to completely hide off everything the player have not yet unlocked of the Duty Finder. Instead, it would be 1000x better to show the entry as "not unlocked yet" (with red frames perhaps) and also point out directions (simple saying "to unlock this you need to finish MSQ and talk to NPC xyz on location abc" or something like that).
The recommendation window on the game also don't serve its purpose if it will not point out important things that need to be done to unlock raids, trials, the cool stuff. So as a new player I go to recommendations => Raid, instead of instructing me on what is needed to unlock things, the window will show nothing.
If it was not a friend of mine asking if I had already unlocked the Asphodelos stuff, I would not even KNOW it exists, and I have already finished the Endwalker MSQ... I'm actually SHOCKED at how this community accept this as normal, because it is not.
Perhaps Square Enix should pay half of our sub prices to Google, since it seems like Google is a requirement to play FFXIV
Exceptions are quests for level cap (and old level caps) and they are all picked up in one of the hubs, so just going through the hubs will show all those quests to you.
No google needed, ever.
Well, I believe the problem in this case is the lack of empathy, by definition. You can't look at things in the POV of a new player, where there is no "new quests becoming available". Everything is there, a multitude of blue quests.Odd. I have never needed Google to find out what I can do in the game. As I said previously and multiples times, my options are either “look online” or “do every single blue quest”. In your case, it's just that the second option is not a concern since you're not new...
Pretty sure this is a troll post at this point. Would recommend ignoring. Getting upset at people for providing a solution is ridiculous.

This is what WoW has. It's a nice little feature that doesn't unlock everything for you, but it usually gives players a breadcrumb quest in order to point them in the right direction or get the unlock process started. FF XIV would probably benefit from something similar, in my opinion. It's useful to new players and vets alike.
I think that they should have it where you can 'see' every instance in the Duty Finder even when you haven't unlocked it, but have the name be "????????" and give a description for how to unlock it. So for a couple of examples:
- "Unlocked through main story progression"
- "Unlocked with the quest Where No Loporrit Has Gone Before found in Old Sharlayan"
- "Unlocked with the questline starting with "The Rise and Fall of Gentlemen in Ul'dah"
- "Unlocked through the Pandaemonium Raid Series"
This doesn't really give any spoilers away while also letting you know what content you're missing, and how to unlock it. And if you don't know where to find the beginning of a quest chain or raid/trial series, you can just ask people ingame.

I was a new player once. And I did not have a problem then either. I do indeed pick up every single quest (blue or otherwise) and systematically go through them. Since I am somewhat of a completionist that is my preferred way of playing anyhow.Well, I believe the problem in this case is the lack of empathy, by definition. But just picking picking up the "blue" quests that unlock other stuff should not be hard for anyone or problematic. No google required.
