And yet, if someone recently quits, they still retain the ability to post until such right is taken away due to having not logged in for a period of time. So if, in fact, he did quit, and he's still within a certain time frame of his most recent log in, he'd still be able to post.
It does not render his quitting invalid (though for how long remains to be seen, and even if it's not "forever" still doesn't render the loss of interest as invalidated), although I guess it's probably as good of a "gotcha" moment as you're going to get on him, if that's all you're looking for. I suppose it's all about the little victories when there's not much else to strive for in this social mmo experience called Final Fantasy XIV.

First, maybe it's just me, but I think there is a different between quitting the game and taking a break from the game.

Second ... I was the one who explained WHY he can still post after quiting the game, so you really quoting and comprehending the wrong person here. Secondly, even if I was playing a "gotcha" moment ... aren't you doing the same? Context matter, specifically it's about this post:

I mean ... I regularly take break from the game to play other things. This year alone I had took a week break for Star Ocean, and another 3 week break (when I actually unsubed) to play Xenoblade 3, I certainly didn't announce my break in the dramatic faction.

Also, this post came from one of the "chronic complainer" who literally complain about everything. It's not about being dismissive, but he's the type that some of us wonder "why are you still here". And now he just openly admit he has more fun complaining on the forum rather than playing the game ... like dude, you can't say it's unreasonable for people poking fun at such a statement. In fact, it would be unreasonable to think people just gonna let such comment slide.

Like, maybe if FF14 were a job, I could understand where he was coming from. But this is a game, it blows my mind how people prefer to be miserable about it rather than enjoying it. So I legit hope this is his final "I quit" post, not because I want to dismiss him (ok maybe a little bit of that), but the main reason would be I just think it's a good decision from a mental health point of view. Because that specific post above is a legit cause of concern.

I have to laugh at comments like these. gotcha moments? He said he quit the game and it's been the best decision he ever made. That 's not simply a "i haven't played for the last week and I'm loving it", it implies a long term "life has been great without FFXIV!!"

I'm one of those dreaded 'sub for a month, play the content, and stop subbing for 5 months' players. do you know WHY I stop subbing? Because I have my fun, and move on when I STOP HAVING FUN. That's why I find these "I QUIT" (no they haven't) posts so silly. If you're so desperate to be rid of the game, just STOP PLAYING. Why on earth would I pay for something for months while I despise it? Why would YOU?

I suppose it depends on what you consider quitting but either way that's a lot of assumptions you make and treating the conclusions you came to as facts.

For me, someone quit when they are done with a game mentally. That doesn't mean that that they have to uninstall it in a rage or spend x years without touching it or even 3 days of sub remaining contests it.
And there are several reasons why someone might still log in:
    1) maybe they're FC leader and want to know their FC in good hands instead of just suddenly never logging in again and dumping it on someone randomly. But things like the person over currently being busy or internal discussions about to go forward can delay that so they'll take care of it for a bit longer
    2) maybe they have a static and don't want them to have to look for a replacement all of the sudden, especially late into the tier like right now, so they'll stay to finish the remaining reclears and give time to find a suitable replacement
    3) maybe they had a 3months/ 6 months sub and what's done is done, can't write SE an email saying "please delete all the remaining game time or someone on the forum will say didn't ACKSHUALLY quit"
    4) maybe they are part of a project they want to finish before quitting, e.g. redesigning the FC house

You could in theory say "Well, just don't do any of these!" but then again, why should someone go about things in a very specific way that goes against their own ethos? The personal decision to get everything in order doesn't take away from the decision to quit something.

In my case, 2 and 3 apply.
I'm still logging in once per week to do one of the last p8s reclears with my static and obviously my sub is still running simply because I already paid for a service in advance that exceeds the time I actually want to use said service. Nothing to be done about, it doesn't bother me nor does it change anything about my decision.
But I've quit. I've emptied my retainers, gave people tenant rights to plunder my house to their heart's content, demolished my apartment and FC room, I'll dump my gil into the FC chest once I vendored the remaining furniture. It's not taking a break like I did during ARR, HW and SB, I know that better than a stranger on the forum. I simply lost all interest in it and I'm just "doing my duty" a few more times because I like the people in my static and dislike suddenly poofing, moreso since my static is for people with anxiety and that struggle to connect with others ingame, so I'd rather give them the option to finish the tier and then look for someone else in peace for the next tier.
And yes, it was a good decision. I know that without having to spend years absent from a game. I still occasionally check the forum when on a train etc. and some people here are interesting to have discussions with but I'll not weep in sorrow when I can't do that anymore fairly soon.
