Yoshi literally admits that they pushed to get XIV into a semi-maintenance mode, so that they could go work on XVI. They wanted XIV to be in a stable spot before moving on.
I mean they're coming back obviously, but we can definitely feel how it's impacted the evolution of XIV these past 4 years. Or the lack of it.
Part of my fear stems from them even being okay with this, because if this is a thing that they just do, then what's to stop them from continuing to work on other main-lines or larger side projects while neglecting XIV and just giving us the B team for the next 10 years.

Yeah because of that game feel pretty bare currently which I would say it was not a smart decision to have the dev team work on two projects by putting XIV in "maintenance mode". This does not help address the core issue that affects the game on top of that it tells square that it ok to keep this type of development is ok which I say it not because like you said for their "Ten Year" plan we could be only getting a skeleton crew instead of patch coming out to the recent for months to now we have to wait five, six or seven months just to receive some content.Yoshi literally admits that they pushed to get XIV into a semi-maintenance mode, so that they could go work on XVI. ITT - someone who doesn't know what "maintenance mode" means but just likes blindly throwing the phrase around. It's amusing when the claim gets contradicted by the poster's very own next sentence...Yoshi literally admits that they pushed to get XIV into a semi-maintenance mode, so that they could go work on XVI. They wanted XIV to be in a stable spot before moving on.

"Maintenance Mode" doesn't inherently mean it's end of life. It just means it's in a state where no major changes will be occurring. Major Development is slowed so that the main team can focus elsewhere without incident.
The product can be picked up at any point after the fact for growth prioritization. Just as XI is in Maintenance Mode, it could be at some point expanded on with priority. But that's unlikely.

In the world of software development, maintenance mode refers to a point in a computer program's life when it has reached all of its goals and is generally considered to be "complete" and bug-free.

Anyway, I'm not saying it's in full Maintenance Mode, but it's definitely in a "Don't make any big decisions" mode. Because we know Yoshi can't 100% focus on both. We kinda have to live with that fact.Originally Posted by Naoki Yoshida

We've basically been stuck in the 'Stable Version' of XIV for the past 3 years. lol
As opposed to WoW, who's been making some pretty bold core game-loop changes.

WoW is actually putting effort into their newest xpac. Next patch is giving players a new zone, more outdoor content, on top of raids and mythic+ dungeons. All because they've listened to the criticism their player base leveled against them all last year. In contrast, the FF14 player base is cult-like in their defense of the game. It's impossible to even talk about the terrible state of EW patches without being met "Well ACKSHULLY." If these people were around back in 1.0, the game wouldn't exist today."Maintenance Mode" doesn't inherently mean it's end of life. This right there is the biggest issue with FFXIV.WoW is actually putting effort into their newest xpac. wow right now is unplayable because spells keep getting blocked by tree branches in dungeons and because every enemy has its own cast bar on screen the display is incomprehensible. this is well documented and a pretty sore point for a lot of wow players rn.WoW is actually putting effort into their newest xpac. Next patch is giving players a new zone, more outdoor content, on top of raids and mythic+ dungeons. So by this logic all complaints are valid and should be addressed. There's no way people can be wrong in what they dislike. Criticism everywhere will have people defend against it. Let's not act lie this is a "xiv problem". If people can complain people can defend. Sorry but the forum is for ALL feedback, good and bad.WoW is actually putting effort into their newest xpac. Btw EW isn't 1.0 nor even comparable so that makes no sense.
