    Design your relic weapon grind

    Considering how much disappointment there seems to be today, time to bring out your ideas for a relic grind series for the developers to read.

    Assume that there can be no new zone created like we had with Eureka and Bozja.

    Remember that there are a total of 19 weapons for players to get and that they'll be unhappy if it's not realistic to be able to get them all in one expansion.

    Please be specific with how much work must be done in each stage, whether it's an amount of currency or a number of duties to complete.

    ARR-style relic grind. Give me back light farms, required crafted components, books and pages, and yes, even mandatory raiding to complete the relic. I believe the relic weapons should be returned to their former glory in exchange for doing precisely the amount of work required of you in ARR. I.e. same amount of tomestones/materia/light/pages etc. Line everything right up with its pre-nerf values.

    Heck, I'd even like to see a return of feeding materia to a scroll to set your own secondaries. Just, y'know, maybe without the game's math being so bad you can somehow fail twelve times in a row on a 100% chance to succeed.

    Seconding the above @Absimilard.

    ARR-style relic grind to expand though..., which incorporates and borrows elements from both Wondrous tales and Moogle Treasure Trove event.

    Have people dabble in a wider array of content, be it FATEs, dungeons, leves, guildhests, or otherwise. Each book has a wide array of items that you can tick items off as a completion, instead of all being mandatory as it were in ARR (from my understanding?), just have a larger selection that people can select to engage in. E.g., complete 9/15 objectives and some objectives on there could be anything from... Complete a Level 90 dungeon, to something like complete a criterion dungeon, or on the more 'difficult' spectrum complete 'Minstrel's Ballad: Zodiark's Fall' - Just ensure there is a system in place so that people must do these objectives sync, regardless of which expansion this falls on.

    Also, have something that ensures people are interacting with a wide array as possible of content, be it tomestones, grand company credits, or even crafting for the base weapon.

    Go FFXI style and combine all the REMA things.

    So first you gotta either go into a Dynamis Dreamland and farm anicent money or buy said ancient money from other players farming said ancient money with your gil. So idk, lots of farming in Elpis fates and Pandeomonium normals for ancient currency that is sellable on the marketboard.

    Then you gotta go to The First and farm specific FATEs in any of the SHB zones to get 50, 50, and 75 of a specific NM's booty crack item (2 for gold credit, 1 for silver credit).

    After that you gotta do a ton of quests where you kill special robots inside of a giant special robot so idk, O7s, O11s, and O12s as a base thing, but then you have to repeat them like 12 times each. Oh and you gotta do'em sync'd.

    Then you gotta kill Hydra, Chimera, and Cerberus for special items. So this entails a sync'd run of the Hydra Trial, Dhorme Chimera trial, and World of Darkness.

    Then you gotta kill a specific chain of NMs. Every NM in every Eureka and Bozja zone, so every single fate and critical event or whatever(not duels though).

    After that you'll have the base form of the relic. The next step is to wield the relic and power it up.

    When you equip this relic you are given a passive DOT that tics for the exact amount you would naturally regenerate in combat, meaning no passive regen at all in combat. You then must redo all of the previous steps while wielding the relic.

    After that, you would need to make an Anima weapon of the same weapon type, because the next stage would be to infuse your weapon with life. Since there was already a relic line with that in mind, you must make a complete Anima weapon to fuse with your relic. This will cause the DOT effect to fall off as well as increase its iLvl.

    After that you have to do the Warring Triad Extreme fights sync'd to clone your relic, as it will be marked as cloneable since it is a living thing and partakes in the danger room exercise of the fully powered Warring Triad.

    For the final stage of this relic you will have to complete Baldesion Arsenal as well as Delubunum Reginae Savage with the relic equipped for BA and your relic's clone equipped for DR Savage.

    The Relic line will end with Gerolt fusing your weapon with its clone where it will take on its final appearance and power, as well as giving you double passive regen.

    I was thinking of a shape-shifting weapon so you don't need to repeat the quest series 19 times. You just do it once and pay some fee each time you want to reforge the final weapon for a different job. But if you want to have all the weapons at the same time then you're free to repeat the quests.

    And I think there's almost no point in the weapon series if it doesn't have new content made for it. Doesn't need to be whole zones like Eureka, but some trial fights like Chimera and Hydra added to existing locations is fine. The fights shouldn't be as quick and dull as those ARR fights though.

    Steps could include strengthening some crystal thing by participating in tough battles, basically the light-gathering step that lets you pick from a variety of content with different amounts of progress given corresponding to the difficulty. They had a lot of fine ideas in ARR. Opening a unique type of map for alexandrite I think it was, that was fine too.

    There used to be a crafted item step in ARR and HW but people complained because they didn't want to craft or pay gil for stuff. I liked how much variety went into weapon enhancement before things got watered down.

    This only works in theory if we have horizontal progression (which we dont).

    XI weapons lasted from 75 till abyssea release. The abyssea weapons were superior in every way till SoA and the REMA differentials for situational dps thereafter.

    I admire the thought process (being a subbed xi player myself for more than 20 years) but it's way to flawed when weapons of any kind in xiv dont carry the same weight (with bonuses and stats) that they do in xi

    At this point I just want SE to stop forgetting variant/criterion dungeons exist and tie the relics to their content they just released. For a timeline I think it should take ~ a month or two for a casual player to get their relic. Let people who play casually have an upgraded relic before the next patch.

    More seriously, I will support you and Abismilard's ideas. Elements from both Wondrous tales and Moogle Treasure Trove to reignite people doing older content. Since we're getting the deep dungeon, I'd be interested to seeing if they incorporate it somehow; clear 50 floors or something too.

    I'll repost here.

    Not the best person to ask since I'm not a big grinder, But personally a small book like menu kind of like wondrous tales WITHOUT the RNG element of dungeons/trials/overworld zones to go explore/clear to get the necessary materials would be good. Anywhere from 15-25 sounds good to me, and the story behind why those areas/dungeons has to be tied into some BS about how the materials are special to this zone and why they are needed to make such a powerful relic so I don't feel like they are just sending me out for the hell of it.

    However, and this is opinion, to me relics should be lengthy to get because I believe they are special weapons and most normal people should get one for their main because of how hard they are to procure, that's what makes them "relics" or very special weapons. Alt jobs and such should be fine with tomestone/raid gear or someone can just be crazy and put the effort into multiple.

    What they shouldn't be imo is something so easy to get that I wonder if manually gathering the mats and crafting a market board set takes longer. Because, those are run of the mill armaments, and not special..



    For extra points every time you complete one or a few of these items you can go back to gerolt and embed them into your weapon, like if you have to get a gem for the weapon in X dungeon, imbue with power from X trial, you can go to Gerolt and just have him put it in for a whopping 2 ilvl increase or w/e % correlated to ilvl you have completed with the visual changes on the weapon, like the Hilt gets the gem and now it shows.

    Its detail oriented but I think it makes it more immersive to see the changes happening if you're into progression and not bulk hand ins.
