Xiv was never a hardcore game. This ain't XI and never has been. The game being causal is a big part of why it's been successful and will continue to be. MMOs like WoW n BDO take care of the hardcore n I like that balance
Getting 1.5k tomes is playing the game? Why is that a counter argument? You have to do content to get tomes. Crazy, I know.
The only difference is you get a choice over what content you do. If you want to get all your tomes from Eureka Orthos? Go for it. You want to PVP the whole time? All yours. You want to spam alliance raids? That's up to you!
The absolute horror of choice.
I sub to this game to have fun. Not to have a second job that I pay for. You have the ability to make this relic step as grindy or easy as you would like. You want a soul sucking grind that takes you weeks to do? Get your tomes from Eureka Orthos or Criterion. You have the ability to choose that.
Seems most people’s issue is they aren’t being told what to do for content and it’s making them freak out.
I get it. I did every shb relic. It was a bit much. I don’t want a grind. I get not wanting just to turn on tomes either. As someone who did multiple ShB relics (I believe 6-8), I enjoyed the grind. It gave me fulfillment and also motivated me to push for some harder achievements in Bozja/Zadnor since I liked it so much. I'm also deathly allergic to Limsa and the bees knees, if you didn't know.
I just wish it was something *more* than just: plz gib 1500 tomestones x2. Like, literally anything other than just a repeat of the first step. It could have been a custom dungeon that you only need to run once to get a drop you need to upgrade and takes 5-10m to complete or completing a FATE specific for the relic twice that doesn't involve RNG. Like, literally anything. Just, I'm hoping it adds more over time than just a continuous tomestone turn in and we get to see some of what people were used to from previous relics involved in some shape or form.
I’m in favour of relic dedicated content. Similar to the original relic. Not grinding fates. Trying to revitalize dead content. Not rng drops.
But wanting a grind is just busy work for the sake of busy work.
This step is similar to token farming. You just choose where you want your runs, and how many. The only difference is getting an item vs not.
I can literally get all the tomes done through hunts and pump out a new weapon every 2 hours. I don't know if it can get more efficient than that but it works for me since I'm also working towards several hunt related achievements. It just feels uninspired and like a: "We didn't know how to make this step engaging so here's a repeat of the first." Which is sad coming from the previous 4 tiers of relics.I get it. I get your point though and it's valid that it's a step to get tomes however you want and that's fine. It works for people who don't have the ability to be online all the time and I'm happy they're being accomodated. I just hope a middle ground can be found where everyone is able to get something out of the relic quest that they've been looking for. Who knows, maybe there will be a step down the line that actually feels like the ARR/HW grind that Yoshi said it would resemble. All I (and others) can really do is voice how we feel about it so maybe it'll actually reach the ears of someone who cares about it. If it will not be, then an explanation should at least be provided by Yoshi as to why it was stated otherwise previously.
I think I have still have PTSD from pre-nerf Atma FATE drops from 2.0 A Realm Reborn relics. One of the worst first steps to a relic ever. Never finished the relic for 1.0 as that was a waste of time.
Eureka and Bozja was mind-numbing content for the majority of relic steps. Baldesion Arsenal in Eureka was pretty fun except for all the player-related drama from instance scarcity (although you did not need to do that in order to complete relic).
Relic has rarely ever been fun content, sad to to say. Just a repetitive, mind-numbing grind.
Fried popoto enthusiast.
