Ashes has been announced as a full loot open world always on pvp MMO......which will be lucky to last six months.

    IF THAT.
Oh I agree that the whole pvpve thing doesn’t sound good at all. With like 1 guy being able to fly if they become mayor or something (so only big guilds or streamers will enjoy this feature).

I saw how it went with Age of Conan with pvp being mixed with pve areas and the game is almost truly dead with 2 servers left. It’s too niche and people generally prefer a fair pvp setting where everyone comes to fight.
I do like the GW1 concept of mixing classes tho, it’s really nice.

There's very little reason to come back cause you don't get rewarded very well for doing so.
To be fair, the ask was for "harder mid-level content", not "harder mid-level content with near-Savage Tier rewards" (aka Mythic+). It was the challenge that players stressed they wanted, not the gear to get them straight into Savage Tier content. Would players be happy with sub-EX trial gear rewards?

I think they'd be happy with just more interesting rewards than a couple housing items and materia.
People want the challenge, sure, but they also want to be rewarded for succeeding.

Just make me wonder how internally stretched thin is square development teams division where they are pulling all the developers from their "high successful" mmo development team. That would explain why every live letter yoshi keeps announcing they have position open because it looks like people that once fill those rolls are getting move else where in the company or towards 16 development which make me question is he really ok with the quality he put for endwalker? I mean he say that want to support the game for the next "10 years" but with all the outdated systems that game currently has is that really even possible because I always felt that should put development time during filler patch to start upgrade those out date systems instead them force trying to get something to work with the current system in place. My other question is does this game really need big graphic update? To me the game still looks ok because the artstyle is still holding up all these year so when yoshi said that at back in 6.0 live letter I was like dude you said that alot old systems keeps you from developing new interesting things for the game maybe you should invest your time upgrade your game inter working so that the game can continue function properly and less on graphical flair.

Referencing Mythic+ is both Challenging AND Rewarding. That's the whole point of M+. Where are these people that only wanted a challenge? Also M+ is DYNAMIC challenge. Which Variant lacks. There's no reason to repeat it, it never changes the challenge. There's no weekly reset for what modifiers Variant gets, with new rewards.

Raiders are talking about gear. The people that want mid-level content just want challenging things to do with a rewarding reason to continue to do them through content lulls.

You don't need to look very far to realize that's the case here. We want Eureka and Bozja style engagement, with Eureka and Bozja style rewards. That's it. It's not rocket surgery.

So giving us a squirrel to kill and then handing us some Materia is like a slap in the face when you compare it to Eureka and Bozja. We're literally getting memed on.
Yoshi gave me a 5 course meal last week, why am I only getting a carrot today but I pay the same price?

Now if Raiders think that type of content should ALSO provide some more paths to gear, I don't blame them. They can have that too. Especially considering Variant is presented as some kinda end-game, but lacks any form of reward outside of squirrel meme.

It's bad when both raider and casual think the content is lackluster.

The reference to "harder mid-level content" back in the day when it was requested didn't really reference Mythic+, since the WoW exodus hadn't yet happened. My own definition of "harder mid-level content with ..." being equivalent to Mythic+ was never going to happen, although it seems to be what people expected when it was announced. It's almost as though the players who complain didn't want harder content at all, they wanted better rewards with less investment than EX trials and Savage raids.

But doesn't M+ still have the problems with bad combinations of affixies can make runs overly punishing? Or how affixies can be counterintuitive to boss mechanics like getting one where the party needs to stand away from each other right when the boss does a mechanic that requires stacking. Also of how players purposefully deplete their keys to get potential takers. Also how if one person leaves during a run, then the key gets ruined.

I asked my neighborhood psychic what the future had in store for this game. This is what they saw in their crystal ball:

    Grass.
Fields of green, as far as the eye can see.

But when I asked for clarification on the actual gameplay, she shook the ball and said it told her to ask again later. So, who knows?

    And it got me thinking.

According to the forums, of course, this game is terrible and in real danger of dying despite the fact that the real world outside of these forums objectively goes against that grim assessment. (The game keeps wracking up awards and more importantly, is still growing in population, as the article points out. Which is the only metric that really matters.)

Now, these forums are not unique in its negativity. Pretty much all games, specifically MMOs, have pretty awful forum communities. The only other MMO I've played that had a decent forum community was LOTRO, but that was a long time ago. I have no idea how their forums might be today. (That truly was a great community, though. From top to bottom.)

And here's the point. I read a lot on here about how the game is too easy, how SE isn't really trying anymore, etc. Yet on the forums and subreddits of other MMOs, such as WoW and ESO, they consistently praise FFXIV's accessibility. They do complain about features being locked behind the story, but they give the game high marks for not being raid-focused and for having dungeons that are relatively easy to complete.

But that relative ease of the game is exactly what people here complain about. The very things that have made FFXIV the current market leader are the things people here would like to see changed. Which honestly makes me very grateful none of you are running SE

I am curious, though. Based on everything I've read here, what do you really want to see in FFXIV's future? Keeping in mind that everything they've done up to this point has REVERSED the trend that FFXI followed in terms of hitting a downward slope after the fourth expansion. Shadowbringers brought more people to the game.

But what would you change that would honestly help the game overall? Not just for a subset of hardcore players?
Have you seen the patches lately? This game is already in maintenance mode.
