Asphodelos took around 7 months for it's loot to be unlocked, and if 6.35 doesn't unlock Abyssos' loot (it probably won't), it'll be even longer for this tier. Why do we have to wait so long to be able to farm out loot from these raids? The devs wait so long to unlock it that by the time they do, said gear is only actually useful for about a month. I'd like to be able to farm out raid gear for my alt jobs, but by the time I actually can, is it even worth doing?
The game is marketed and set up to support playing all jobs on one character, and yet it seems like the devs are not interested in allowing players to actually use that system to its fullest extent. With the way gear currently is, it's actually just better to make an entirely new character if I want to play a different role at a high level of play. If alt characters are meant to be the answer to gearing, why even allow players to have all jobs on one character? If you participate in the game's systems in the way it seems to promote, you'll hit a gear wall where you just don't have the resources to play optimally on roles you haven't been lucky enough to gear yet.
And it's even worse when an ultimate gets involved. If I've only been lucky enough to get gear for a tank, what happens if I want to (or need to) do the new ultimate as a different role? I just can't because I can't access the best gear in the game due to time-gates that shouldn't even be there at that point.
Ideally it would be best to unlock savage raid gear for farming (as well as removing the weekly tomestone limit for tome gear) in the major patch after it's initial release. The prestige of clearing savage early in it's lifespan is gone by then, a new ultimate might demand gear you simply don't have, and some people just wanna farm something they can use for more than a month at most. I just don't see why we need to have loot restricted for so long.
People say that the answer to a content drought is to take a break. So seeing as we seem to find ourselves in one every other patch, why not unlock it early to let people farm out what they want so they can leave for said break? This system seems very similar to housing where it acts as a ball and chain meant to keep you locked here. Perhaps maybe it's time to break that chain.
And no, I don't care if gear isn't 'necessary' outside of ultimate. If gear isn't meant to be desired, then why have any progression system at all?
