why was the one-time password really made visible surely we all have more complex passwords then a 6 digit number and that is still obscured , it just makes me think...

I would guess because they trace most failed login attempts to the OTP being entered incorrectly. Being a randomly generated number for each log in attempt, it can't be memorized and muscle memory won't help unless someone is very good with typing and/or 10 key skills.
