"So even if sales are "lesser" they make a profit from either the payed deal or the lowered cost of creating the product."
the less sales =/= less profit youre making the profit from another source (the exclsuive deal itself or the lowered production cost)
Well... in the case of the Epic Game Store. Would anyone outside of Fortnite players have used it if they didn't dump all that money buying timed exclusives? It's kind of the only thing that gave that platform any kind of relevancy to gamers. More of each sale going to the publisher/developer doesn't mean much if consumers won't even look at the store because they already have one that they'd been buying games from for years. I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft seeing this wasn't one of the reasons for their recent developer acquisition moves.you know sony pays for part of the exclusivity ya? if not outright paying for then paying for the upfront cost of dev, which the team has on record said sony did provid. So even if sales are "lesser" they make a profit from either the payed deal or the lowered cost of creating the product. Once the deal is up, there will be another hit of sales when it comes off and you see it on MS and PC. You see the same sort of things in the pc landscape where epic will pay an exobiant amount of cash to have a limited timed exclusivity, enough where the dev team of a game would be stupid not to take it, and then get another hyper bang out when it comes to steam.
Example: What happened to Hades and now darkest dungeon 2.
FFXVI being a timed PS5 exclusive with claims a PC version will come some time beyond the timed exclusivity window to me indicates they may need all that time to port it to PC in a playable state for most common hardware configurations. This being because I'm expecting the title to take a considerable amount of storage space simply due to the detail on the visuals we've seen in screenshots and teasers. Unless ppl really want to play it in the same state as the PS4 version of Cyberpunk 2077 was at it's launch lol.
Epic hemorages a looooooooooot of money to get people on their platform, my plethora of free games is testemant of that.Well... in the case of the Epic Game Store. But thats more an epic problem and less so for the devs they pay to be there.
It is kind of interesting how ppl seem to think a title like FFXVI will only sell copies the first week then never be bought again ever with the claims of "oh PS5 only will destroy sales numbers". Or they're assuming ppl with a PC that don't have a PS5 will just not buy the game when it finally gets ported to PC.
Sure SE launched some recent titles that failed to meet sales expectations. That doesn't mean they lost money. Nearly all of these "failed" releases were still made a profit. Just not as large a profit as they'd expected. IMO those "failures" weren't really bad games but just ones that suffered from poor execution either mechanically with the game itself or how it was marketed or a bad case of timing in regards to title releases from other companies. I still feel like the heaviest blow to Stranger of Paradise was Elden Ring releasing shortly before it.
On the whole "PS5 has supply issues". As stated by others this was in the past. Sony officially announced the supply issue was resolved. You can find units and bundles with titles like God of War on store shelves. Sony's more recent advertising has left implications that Sony may be ready to phase out the PS4 at this point now that consumers can easily acquire a PS5 in most regions.
All I can say is I'm waiting until I can play it on PC. If that's never, I'm never playing XVI, even if I'd like to play it. I don't care for consoles and I'm not going to buy a PS5 just for one game.
Looks like until they take 6 months to optimize for PC you'd need a $2000 PC to play it as the PS5 does.

Wtf kind of $2000 PCs is he looking at? A good $2000 PC is an absolute monstrosity. You can absolutely get PS5 performance below that price point. All I really got out of this is that FFXVI is so poorly optimized that the PS5's complete devotion to performing a single task is something of a crutch. Dude's definitely underestimating sub-2000USD PCs. Sounds like the statement is half meant as a PS5 ad.Looks like until they take 6 months to optimize for PC you'd need a $2000 PC to play it as the PS5 does.

I think he didn't mean PS5 performance in general, but rather the optimized performance he's been able to realize by working closely with Sony engineers on optimization and being able to leverage designing for one single console and console architecture.
He did say in the article that after a few months of optimization it should run just fine on lower spec PCs, thus the longer than 6 month time after release for a PC port.
Ah. Fair enough, then. That's probably true. Sony having a direct hand in development probably does mean it's quite specialized at the moment. Either way, I'm kinda glad to know they'll be spending so much time optimizing the PC port. A lot of games that run like crap have been slipping through the cracks lately, and not just from Square-Enix.
