Oh yeah totally, I also much better prefer grounded villians. Even better when the final boss isnt all powerful, but my point was that each final boss in the FF series and in a lot of other jrpgs achieve some level of "godhood" which is where the trope comes from.Eh, I prefer villains like Ilberd. He had a goal (Drag the WoL to free Ala Mingo) and accomplished it! Most of the bad guys they introduce had either tragic backstories or use their godpowers as if they are backed into a corner. Ilberd had a dragon's eye and singlehandedly shifted the attention of every leader of the Eorizean alliance to Ala Mingo. We need more bad guys like Ilberd, lol.

Tbh XIV has many different types of bad guys from super complex ones to "har har we bhad" ones. Think the writers have done a good job thereEh, I prefer villains like Ilberd. The Cloud of Darkness is also something far beyond the power of most gods, not to mention Exdeath once he's been consumed by the Void in his game, Sephiroth after gorging himself on the lifestream, and even Chaos after consuming the power of the four fiends. Power is not what makes a god. Yes, they usually need to be extraordinarily powerful entities, but that isn't what what defines them as such - not entirely, anyway.
We can turn to Greek mythology for a good example; primordials, titans, and gods. All are presented totally differently despite wielding similar levels of power for the most part. The Greek primordials are often referred to as "primordial gods," but the ways in which they engage in the world are very different from those of the Olympian gods. They don't involve themselves in mortal affairs for the most part. Heck, most don't even involve themselves in Olympian affairs unless Zeus or one of his ilk do something incredibly stupid.
As readers may have inferred already, I find it far more compelling when the divine remains totally uninvolved outside of fulfilling some kind of purpose in the background. This was not always my opinion on the matter, but recent years have seen a tremendous oversaturation of stories about the gods shoving their hands in all the cookie jars, so to speak. It's become an ever-present trope, all but inescapable in modern media. Why do we need to constantly see what the gods are up to? Why must we know them? Why not leave them a mystery whilst mortals go on with their petty affairs? Sometimes, less is more.

Most of those were actually defeated and no longer exist. Not Necron. Necron is the manifestation of an idea and it will always exist so long as life and death exist. In IX you don't defeat Necron. You just get it to go away. The Cloud of Darkness is also something far beyond the power of most gods, not to mention Exdeath once he's been consumed by the Void in his game, Sephiroth after gorging himself on the lifestream, and even Chaos after consuming the power of the four fiends. It's really similar to Endsinger. We're not defeating despair. It's going to continue to exist. We just got it to stop going out and trying to eat the universe on purpose.
Another Aveyond Thread. I tag this as such for a reason.
Move along, nothing to see here people...except food and Hrothgar.
We should turn it into another hrothgar thread! Where's Mide at to post his boi???

Can I get a link?
Im always looking for new artists to commission in the future
I'll see if I can find a way to link him to you, I can't remember his stuff LOL. Messaged him on discord to ask for it. I'll edit this post if I get a response.
EDIT: I sadly don't have a SFW link I can post here as the artist has kind of gone uh... pretty heavy on the NSFW stuff.
His name's Sorren though, if you want to seek him out somehow.

If I have a choice I'll take the 10/10 writing. I don't think its okay to have mediocre alliance raid stories that we wait 4 months a pop for each section. I will however put up with them. If I were a dev and I read this I would be encouraged to half ass things.
Myths of the realm is a good alliance raid tho (story wise, combat Euphrosyne is probably the most meh in a while), Nier was a mistake imo.
I think you misunderstood me. I thought Nier's story was really meh, while OP, based on this thread and others he's made in the past, demands his idea of perfection from Square. Using Nier as an example, I was saying we've already got meh stories, particularly in OP's golden child expansion ShB.If I have a choice I'll take the 10/10 writing. Also, realistically not every story is gonna be a 10/10 hit, as nice as it'd be.
