I would certainly like the FATE system to be expanded into more interesting outdoor events. I played a bit of WoW Dragonflight recently and I much enjoyed the World Event system there. Sure, there were plenty of "kill X number of Y" events, but there were also ones where I had to fly through some bugs in the air, participate in a food fight, etc.
Been working on getting my jobs to 90, after running out of daily roulettes my only options are to run dungeons near my current level, the "Deep Dungeon" styled content which includes Bozja/Zadnor, and FATEs to get the weekly challenge for a couple decent bumps of EXP.
That being said, FATEs are fine if you really want to take your time leveling, though I think there needs to be some incentives to grind those instead of running a dungeon for the fifth time with trusts or players. Maybe include a FATE board, similar to hunt boards, you have a daily FATE board, limit 3-5 a day where you do a number of fates in a given area for a very large chunk of XP, about like 2/3's of a dungeon of your current level.
Let the rewards for those be allied/centurio seals, and of course quantities of gil.

There are certain big boss FATEs that last 30 minutes and give achievements, as well as sometimes currencies for purchasable items, or sometimes outright dropping minions or orchestration rolls.
ShB and EW introduced the shared fate system, along with the gems.
And 3 out of 5 relic weapons have steps that involve fates, although admittedly the "step" in ShB relics that involves SB fates is one time only.
Fates are in a solid position if anything.
It would be nice if the FATES prior to SHB were more rewarding, or at least the difficult and/or longer weird ones like The Magitek is Back, in the Peaks. It has no achievement and is the only Chase FATE in the game as far as I know yet gives nothing other than the regular FATE rewards. That's the most prominent one that comes to mind, though I know there are quite a few FATES in HW that take quite longer than ARR FATES due to kill credit for some reason not counting as much.
You sure those fates were scaled properly for your group? That's one thing I would like to see changed. Remove fate scaling for groups under 3 people. It would be nice if the FATES prior to SHB were more rewarding, or at least the difficult and/or longer weird ones like The Magitek is Back, in the Peaks. Right now whenever I'm solo farming fates rather than farming with a fate train anywhere seeing someone else join is usually more irritating than it should be. There's a lot of people in this game that randomly join fates if they see someone else, even though they have no intention of sticking around in that zone and farming. This means that the next time the fate spawns it'll be scaled for 2 with only one person.
I don't think it's up to people to know this, and obviously it'd be rude to tell people to leave and whatever. It's more on the game. I should be happy to see someone else joining and helping, even if they probably won't stick around, rather than being bothered by it.
